Last Film You Saw

I think when it comes to Michael Bay, the movie gets better when the budget gets smaller.

I was more or less forced to sit through about 30 minutes of The Internship. Dumb, irritating, and not funny at all. I left as soon as I could.

Saw the desolation of smaug today. Liked it a lot more then the first

I should see that movie.

I have been hesitant to see any movies outside of cable broadcasts lately, and I don’t know why. I have thought about renting a movie or three from Redbox, but I never actually get around to doing it.

I’m going to watch Hobbit 2 tomorrow.

I’ve seen Orpheon’s word on it, but does anyone else have any opinion on the HFR version of Desolation of Smaug? I didn’t get the chance to see An Unexpected Journey in HFR and the only videos I’ve seen of the Hobbit in HFR are the trailers that have been interpolated and they seemed alright for slower scenes but not much else.

Just trying to decide which version I should see.

its a bit weird but you get used to it and then it doesnt really matter either way

Titanic.

Remember that kid that played the rich plantation owner in Django Unchained? Well, he sure has come a long way from a badly acted racist to an amazingly realistic streetrat on a boat.

HFR, as long as the cinema isn’t charging significantly more for the tickets than for non-HFR 3D.

I couldn’t keep thinking about this while watching the movie today. In particular during a crane shot of some orcs running beside the river while chasing the dwarves; it looked really off, like they had forgotten to texture certain layers of their skin before rendering. It looked like a video game.

Great movie though, if a bit too long for my tastes.

Just watched the second Hobbit movie. Felt like it was about the same as the first. Martin Freeman’s more serious Bilbo was great! Turiel was cute! Smaug was perfect! Now, for the bad (spoilers, so in the shaded text):

[COLOR=’#191919’]Same as before, the cartoony aspects were out of place–Bombur in a barrel with swords sticking out the sides? Also, Orlando Bloom’s Legolas just looked too old to be the same character from the Lord of the Rings movies. I understand that the elves are long-lived, but Orlando Bloom is not. He looked a lot older in this. Also, the line at the end (the ā€œWhat have we done?ā€ line) as Smaug is flying towards Lake-town should’ve been spoken by Thorin, not Bilbo. And that molten gold looked SO fake, especially when the golden dwarf statue melted in front of Smaug. Oh, well, still enjoyed it immensely!

I swear some shots of Smaug that were quick looked like they were rendered for a video game cutscene, while most of them looked fantastic - it was very jarring (to me at least)

Not really a movie, but I’m finally watching Game of Thrones - despite having some pretty big parts spoiled for me by my dad, I’m still hooked and already up to season 3.

I never noticed any bad looking CGI in Desolation of Smaug for some reason, the quick but obvious GoPro shots from the river did bother me a bit however. I also agree that Orlando looks a bit too old now, though not terribly so. And…I liked the bit with Bombur and the barrel, I thought it was hilarious

My friend thought they CGI’d bloom’s face

I laughed.

Also, to reiterate, I’m still surprised that such bad CGI got into the final cut of the movie. Most of it was stunning, but those details made it seemed like the whole thing was rushed. [color=’#131313’]Dat Bilbo on the the treetops shot though.

Is Game of Thrones anything like Battlestar Galactica in terms of tone?

Not at all. Game of Thrones is actually good, with shifting tones from lighthearted to exciting, and suspenseful, unlike Battlestar Galactica which was one tone of total despair throughout, and sucked.

Where Eagles Dare, a great WWII movie with R. Burton and C. Eastwood.

Oh shit. From all I’ve heard about beloved characters dying, I just assumed it was dark like that.

I’m gonna have to give it a try then.
