L4D2: The Globe Amphitheater

I recently had to do a report in English about Elizabethan amphitheaters and decided to try and make one for a L4D2 scavange map.

Here is my reference picture. It has 16 sides, but the one I am making in Hammer has 12 because that’s a lot easier to deal with.

Here are some pictures.

Here’s a really shitty quality video of the map.

It’s still very much a work in progress. I’d like someone to do a bit of modeling and texturing for the columns and railings.

Very nice; I like it. Keep up the good work!

That’s nice, is this your first map or…?

And what type of gamemode is it?

He said already, Scavange
.

Instead of just doing the Shakespeare Theatre, you could do the compound around it, making it a perfect Scavenge map.

I don’t really know what the compound is like. I’m mostly making this for the architecture rather than the gameplay, I have no idea how the gameplay is gonna turn out.

I’ve been mapping on and off for around 2 years now. :[

:awesome:

Oh… Well this is awkward.

Goddamn I’m stupid…

It’s a bit… blocky.

Reminds me of my campaign I’m making…perhaps once I got a bigger chunk of it done, ill post it up here. (I have lots to do on it :frowning: )

Anyways looks good so far…needs more wood :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, the reconstructed one irl has pretty much no space around it, it’s mostly upmarket apartments being so close to central London, and on the banks of the Thames :stuck_out_tongue:
.

Looks nice but too blocky.

Looks good. Far better than I could do.

The blockiness will probably go away when I get to put more work into this. Remember, it’s WIP, only about 2 weekend’s worth of work. If anybody is interested, I need some modelers/textures to make columns between each story, to make railings for the staircase, and to perhaps make something to fancy up the railings between the columns. Post here and I will give you the dimensions of the models I need and descriptions. Also, don’t worry if the texturing looks bad, I’m waiting until I’m done with everything else to really work on that.

Make the sound actually echo/reverberate; it’d be both eerie and super awesome.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t know how to do that and it would require you to download a new version of every single sound used in L4D2 scavange just to play the map.

Finally, an update.

I’m still working on the lighting, so it doesn’t look very good right now.

I’ve added the “heavens” (thing above the stage), some torches here and there, put some trees outside of the theater, added a bunch of supports, made the side behind the stage, and made the first floor a lot shorter.

Not a whole lot different, mainly just some more texturing, but it looks a lot better (I think).

I think all that’s left is fixing the outside, lots and lots of detail work, and then setting it up for scavange. Right now there are no entrances to the amphitheatre, I’m thinking of getting rid of the staircase opposite the stage and putting an entrance on the bottom floor there.

Triple post. :’(

I like it, but aren’t the corridors a bit too narrow?

Reviving long dead thread with big update!!! Hopefully I won’t have to triple post this time.:’(

Changes: 3d skybox, changed to night, more torches, outer wall, no more trees (more better ones will be added back), stage made bigger and library/study props added, entrance added, and various stage props added behind the stage.

What I still want to do: Fix some glitches with dynamic lighting (I will make a thread in help and support),put a flag of some sort on top of the tower, make the front outside more interesting (maybe put some banners/signs saying The Globe?), more props/better props, trees and other scenery just outside of the theater, shacks/houses around the theater for Zombies to spawn in?, and add more places for the Zombies to enter the theater from outside.

EDIT: oh, and set up the director and nav mesh. Also, I’ve decided to make this a survival map because that way you can play it alone or with only one or two other people. How do you play a custom map online with friends on L4D2?

Yes, but it’s too late to change that, so the charger is just going to have to have a little bit of trouble getting around. I am more going for looks than gameplay in this map. If the gameplay comes out well, great, if it doesn’t then oh well.
