Just out of curiosity.

Not trying to be troll bait or anything.
But when the team announced a 2009 release, I would assume that meant the release, at the least, wouldn’t be too much later than early in the new year.
Or was the 2009 mark just pulled out of nowhere as a… motivator for the team? rather than a… marker of when things ‘could’ have been completed, theoretically.
I only ask so I know whether I should hang a lot incase it wasn’t just a motivator and release is soon, or if I should sleep many more hours a day.

I’m generally a lurker, just one of those questions that floated around in my head.

probably better not to

at least it’s better than NS2, they actually offered their game for sale before delaying it indefinitely.

I periodically post that i think BM is a hoax and that the “devs” have just been playing with development software and laughing at us for the last 5 years.

But, as you can see, they keep deleting my post so it looks like this is my 1st post.

Duke Nukem Forever did that too if I remember correctly

pretty sure you aren’t remembering correctly

There was an amusing pic going around of some online retailer apparently accepting pre-orders for Duke Nukem Forever when it was clearly not going to be done any time soon, if ever. Maybe that’s what you’re remembering. It was either a stupid goof by the e-tailer or a cute Photoshop effort, pretty sure the game was never actually for sale in any way.

lol that might have been it, i never was a fan of duke, so I never paid much attention to him.

its obvious no one is going to pay any attention to the questions posed

Sooooo yeah turned out the 2009 was a motivator for the team to get the mod done, and they’ve missed it by a mini-longshot so far.

But the day’ll come very soon.

If you remember, the 2009 date was set late 2008. This was to give the team lots of motivation and desire to get it done over the course of the following 12 months. As we all know tho, lots of things can happen over the course of a year. Heck, people’s real life jobs are rarely the same after 2 years, so is it any wonder that perhaps real life impacted the mod? I do believe a while back Raminator himself mentioned 2009 proved to be a year where real life impacted the mod the most. Team changes, school, family and how about just plain burnout?

Yes, the 2009 was a goal that they were hoping would give them something to shoot for. Too many missed deadlines happened tho. So now we are back to the “When it’s done” and “About 7” answers. (Wouldn’t it be funny tho if somewhere in the mod a scientist is overheard saying “about 7”?)

Perhaps this will help everyone though… when the mod is ready to be released, it is not going to be a zero info to “Surprize! It’s released!” kinda thing. There WILL be indicators or hints that soon means soon. I remember a certain media release where there was at least a couple weeks of “its coming folks… the media is coming… it will be big… its coming”. And then it came. And the internet crashed. :chuckle:

I guess what I am trying to say is, if you want to lurk then lurk. If you wanna get some sleep, GET some SLEEP. If you wanna check in once a month then check in once a month. Make it a quarterly thing if that is what will help you keep your sanity. In the end, the developers really do need some space to get their stuff done.

Do I need to close this now?

About 7 = sometime in July, perhaps.

Nah, just let us chill in here for a bit
We’re cool, not causing trouble

I personally check daily, mainly for the Fav BM Media thread, which often contains media I’ve not seen before, taken from the wiki or portfolios. Certainly keeps me sane. Glad there’s a nurse in the building, I’ll probably go into cardiac arrest when the announcement drops.

I’ll see you in the hospital brotha, only I’ll be in for alcohol poisoning.

ditto. I will be in the room next to yours

Ill be in the hospital haveing a heart attack when i saw TWO black mesa team members in the same place =p

I was actually going to ask something similar and then I saw this thread.

In particular, I am noticing that they haven’t even put out a twitter update for over three months now, and nothing has been posted in the “news” section.

It’s all good with me though, as long as they are at least still planning on getting the mod out eventually.

I am just hoping it’s not dead…
can anyone confirm?

nope, the mod is still very much alive. they arn’t probably going to update twitter or youtube till it is out so if you want more media, check the wiki’s gallery of new files uploaded.

There are new pictures and stuff being uploaded every so often.
https://wiki.blackmesasource.com/index.php/Special:NewFiles

Stuff gets uploaded, but not always updated.

It doesn’t always happen, but why post already outdated or old material to the wiki only to have to tell people it doesn’t look like that anymore, why not post a current version? It makes a lot of sense for devs to post all their material in their portfolios or personal sites, but if a model or prop isn’t being used or looks different, why take the time to post it on the wiki?

I’m just asking out of curiosity, I do believe that old media is better than no media.

^seconded.

I’m not really aching for more media, since if they keep releasing it there will be nothing left to surprise me! However, I am just worried about the mod status, even though it’s obviously . . . STILL ALIVE. . . (oh god please shoot me for that one)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
