ITT: You ask Kaze questions concerning bodybuilding and general fitness.

What about being able to perform physically demanding tasks effectively?

…all exercises that I do. Ah well, they’re relatively small muscles… maybe I’ll just start hitting them with more sets. Worked well for the biceps.

Ha ha! What the devil are you on about?

Yo Kaze, I talked to a fitness instructor today at the gym about how to squat. He told me that your knees can come in front of your toes. Its your balance that matters and that if you feel that you’re about to fall backwards because you’re trying to keep your knees behind your toes, then its ok to let your knees come forward so you can balance better.

If this is the case, then I can squat perfectly fine now. My knees only go in front by a few centimetres but I don’t fall back anymore.

He did however say that if your knees start hurting you should readjust your form. What do you think?

Your balance is what matters. That’s why your knees don’t go in front of your toes.

If your knees are going ahead of your toes in a drastic manner, your heels are going to come off of the ground and you are going to have terrible power transfer and likely will fall on your face. Your problem seems to be that you aren’t using your hips enough when you squat. Practice lifting your big toe off of the ground on each foot, then squat. That will teach you to stay off of your toes and on your heels.

Trust me, everyone wants to think that their body is somehow different and they don’t need to squat like everyone else does, but the fact is if your knees are coming ahead of your toes, you aren’t doing it right and you need to practice it more.

At 0.44 of the second video, you can see how the dude’s knees go slightly over his toes. That’s just about what is happening to me.

2:12 is what is called having your knees over your toes. Not when they’re nearly parallel with them.

What? Being so hung up on your physical appearance that you get surgically implanted cosmetic muscle expanders isn’t entirely heterosexual?

Kaze- My karate teacher says that doing full pushups, not on your knees, below about 16 years old can be dangerous, is this tue?
(Do not question whether he is qualified to do this (although he could be wrong): Karate is VERY good exercise)

Are the Total Gym machines that say that they can work all the muscles the right option? You know, it’s the machine that Chuck Norris advertises about on TV. Or should I work out with all the different machines in the weight room?

Now that Lyoto Machida has won a few matches using his special brand of karate I guess Karate has seen a sudden resurgence. It’s too bad classic Karate techniques are useless in an actual fight.

Lmao what?

Your karate teacher is a tool.

And by the way, being qualified to teach a martial art does make you qualified to give advice concerning fitness and the human body. Whatever shitpile source of information he’s been feeding on is wrong.

Machines are a waste of time for newbs. Did you not read any of the first like three posts in this thread?

And no, Bowflex, Total Gym, and all of that retarded shit you see on TV is worthless. I’ll bet you any portion of my salary that I can make double the gains with my power rack that any genetic freak could with one of those.

Hey is it true that bodybuilding can slow down or stop your development? Because that’s what my sister’s boyfriend told me. And he’s an Olympic trainer for fencing. Right now I’m 5’11", but I’d like to get to at least 6’2", and I know I’ll probably get to there.

Most of the advice that some exercise or another is bad for people who are still growing is based on the premise that you would have to do ridiculous amounts of that exercise.

I used to row and they always told us that it would be bad to row sweep-oar, because you bend your back to one side helluvalot. Turned out it would be bad, if you’d train more than (IIRC) 20 hours per week.

So as with everything, my guess is it really is about how often you perform a certain exercise.

Worst myth ever.

Not true, your growth plates can deal with lifting. Trust me, there are 14 year old girls over in China that are stronger than I am.

Your height is only going to be affected by one thing naturally: your genetics. You can’t just make yourself taller. And trust me, you don’t want to be 6’2" unless you really like basketball. I know most of the guys that I know who are that tall hate it. Everything becomes uncomfortable.

You cannot enter half of the cars with a roof if you are above 6’ tall.

A friend of mine is around 6’4 and he absolutely hates riding in my WRX. Seriously, he has to hunch over at a 30 degree angle just to not hit his head off of the roof.

Well I don’t really care if I go to 6’2", but I know I’ll go to there anyway. I have the genetics for it.

I’m 5 foot 9, and I’m short for my family. I’m pretty comfortable with my height though. Much taller and I’d have to bend over too far for the ladies. Not to mention my car which is low to the ground.

Something a bit related to the topic of the thread now. I was doing some dead lifts and got a bit careless, and ripped apart the skin on my right hand pretty bad. I’m thinking it’s way overdue to get a pair of gloves. Any recommendations?
