Is there any command to increase jump height?

I’ve tried looking around the internet for a command but I can only find one to change gravity. I’d like to change the jumping height from 3 inches off the ground to a more reasonable couple of feet. I’m having to jump over kerbs all the time and it’s getting a bit annoying.

why do you need to, learn to duck jump.

if that dosent work then you obviously aint meant to jump there

You can turn down the gravity with sv_gravity , default is 600.

sv_gravity 400 works for me

I already know how to duck jump. Having to duck jump over a kerb becomes a bit tedious after a short while, that’s all.

I find the game’s normal jump height very annoying as well. Didn’t really bother me until I got to the train car in the beginning of Blast Pit. Can’t jump out of the rail area with out duck jumping. After browsing the console commands I found “bms_normal_jump_vertical_speed”. Default is 160. Still not sure what “classic” jump height would be. Also not sure if modifying it negates the ability to complete achievements.

Wouldn’t lowering the gravity break some of the puzzles?

I found it limiting, but realistic. I noticed that I could barely jump whilst holding some objects.

After my first playthrough I went to the console and typed “bms_normal_jump_vertical_speed 230”. It’s not considered a cheat, it’s a nice decent jump that doesn’t make everything require a crouch jump, and best of all it doesn’t break your physics.

I just started playing this game and really would have liked to not use cheats, but alas, I already had to. I just passed a series of pipes you need to cross to get to the other side. (It’s the part where a creature blows up and takes the bridge with it.) I had to use “noclip” just to make it. The jumping is so bad, you can’t even get on top of a 2’ high pipe. And stacking doesn’t work to climb either. I don’t know how this was overlooked. It’s obvious your supposed to jump up to each pipe, but you just can’t. I’ve already encountered numerous times where you need to climb, but your jump just isn’t high enough. My 2 cents anyways…

Once again, crouch jump is the way to go.

Was there a prompt in the game that informed newbies about crouch-jumping? Perhaps one should be added in…

There was, specfically directly after the Cascade while traversing the room on fire where you have to jump onto the forklift while escaping the headcrab.

Brilliant!

@Noobs: Please remain calm and follow on the on screen instructions.

This seriously shouldn’t be an issue in the age of quick time events.

Okay, I now see the crouch jump…

I’ve played all the Half Life games and only remember using something similar to get into ducts. It really isn’t a standard for any other FPS game so a lot of people might not notice this one. Double jump would have made more sense. Jumping twice should say, cause your legs to fold up in mid air.

Whatever, the game is still awesome anyway.

I only remember duck jumping for vents in HL1. Must admit it got annoying in BM, so much so I’ve tried to finda good value for the cfg.

I never had a problem at all with jumping onto things, so it can’t be the games fault.

Thanks for posting the console command. I don’t know why the developers have a fetish for awkward crouch jumping, but it’s just awful.

Here’s what to do. Go to wherever the Steam files are on your computer, then go to the Steam > SteamApps > sourcemods > BMS > cfg folder, and open the skill.cfg file. In the gameplay section of the file, there are two values you’ll need to change: bms_normal_jump_vertical_speed and bms_normal_jump_crouch_vertical_speed. Change the numbers next to these to 200, then save the file. This will make the jump height more reasonable and useful while not making it higher than it needs to be.

…and save a copy of the original .cfg file somewhere safe, just in case.
