Is Black Mesa realistic enough for you?

In a nutshell: How does Black Mesa feel realistic to you even though the setting in which the game takes place on is fictional and non-existent?

Personally, Residue Processing hit the realistic mark of the game. I mean come on, who doesn’t want to go through sh*t river? :fffuuu:

Yes.

It’s a pseudo-realism, just like most games, that’s why we play them.
But HL’s appeal imo comes from a mix of seriousness/comic relief and an arguably possible scenario… if you believe in alien lifeforms, that’s it :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know about realistic, personally, but immersive? Very much so. Much more than Half-Life 2, for that matter.

Many parts and elements of the game are realistic enough I say. Surely we know there are secret research facilities with nasty secrets really exist. US Goverment loves to deny, silence witnesses, and cover up sensitive happenings. I even belive in alien life forms, but… c’mon scientists would never wear such ridiculous ties ever.

And yes, Black Mesa beats Half-Life 2. Though I might only say that because I can walkthrough the entire HL2 in my mind. We know that game for nearly a decade now, afterall.

Considering the other games I play consist of Sonic the Hedgehog, Team Fortress 2, and The Binding of Isaac, I would probably say yes.
Maybe. Just maybe.

nah. If it were realistic there’d be variance in body types and more than 3 voice actors.

And service personnel. Unless Black Mesa is built out of self-maintaining materials, or uses the nanobot construction teams from Portal 2.

New theory: Gordon was the only human at Black Mesa, everyone else was just an android.

Well at least the German government would be happy.

Kinda (okay maybe more than kinda) off-topic, but meh, personally I say that because Half-Life 2 just really doesn’t work for me. I can’t get into it, it just doesn’t “click” with me.

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game, but it really just doesn’t work for me.

If aliens would invade earth, then It’s the most realistic survival game ever. But you can still fight military and destroy real lavs, tanks, ospreys and apaches and there are no cutscenes which make this game very very realistic (personally I hate cutscenes because they make player unable to perform few actions). Also few weapons are realistic, realistic sky and realistic desert. And action is in realistic place. So yeah, this game is quiet realistic, and no I’m not talking about Half Life 2.

Can you explain that to me ?

robosoldiers in german version of HL1

how ironic that I, a german guy, haven’t thought about what bothered everyone else here : not having the US version with actual grunts to fight against (and blood !)^^ I had the US from the beginning so I never encountered them and eventually displaced the androids out of my mind :stuck_out_tongue:

Well… No. I’d like the Grunts to act more realistic. That’s the only thing I would change, their behavior. They’re more like some kind of stupid cartoonish villains now.

But if the grunts acted human, people wouldn’t want to shoot them. :frowning:

I want them to seem stone cold killers, who are just following orders, and have actual strategy behind their behavior. What was in BMS were stupidly unprofessional teenagers who yelled taunts as they were aimboting the hell out of you. Okay, maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but still encapsulates their general behavior. I would still want, or will still shoot the HECU for the sake of self preservation, but it shouldn’t be due to the fact that I just want to shut them up.

I hate the direction they went, and I really don’t understand it. I don’t want to go on a rant, because I’ll end up harshly criticising everything from the voices to the programming. I’m just hoping the voices are redone and the AI is massively improved. The voice direction sucks, and the AI strikes me as extremely basic (they can move, see, and shoot).

Don’t forget hear you from 10 metres away.
