Iron Sights Versus Crosshairs

Iron sights look badass if done right, and are a lot more realistic, but they limit sight and can’t have things like the episode’s flashlight and health meter on them. Crosshairs don’t look as cool and aren’t as realistic, but iron sights don’t seem to fit in games like HL2. Iron sights require slow movement for accurate shooting while crosshairs don’t.

I personally like both. I think iron sights work best for realism games and war games like COD and Far Cry while crosshairs work best for the sci-fi genre.

The one game I think could have used iron sights that didn’t is Fallout 3, but I guess they didn’t want to have to make that many more animations for every gun.

I dream of a game where in which crosshairs and iron sights are interchangeable, but the crosshair is merely a representation of where the Player Character thinks he or she is aiming.

I grew up with crosshairs so ironsights is therefore gay.

But ironsights grew up long before you.

true. but then again REAL guns have been around for some measure of around fifteen hundred years. I have not.

Crosshairs. Mostly because a game shouldn’t be realistic IMO. If you want to have realistic warfare go and sign up for Uncle Sam.

Cross hairs aren’t necessarily unrealistic in Sci-Fi games, as by that time you’d think the tech would exist. Also, why not just have both? It works fine in a lot of games.
Personally I don’t if a game has ironsights much, they don’t really improve games at all.

i try to turn crosshairs off in singleplayer games to simulate shooting from the hip

Well aren’t you hardcore.

i like ARMA II’s system with a Track IR for realism.

and i like the classic Valve cross hairs for casual fun. i like them both, and i think that they should both exist for certain games. Iron sights have become way too cliche IMO.

I liked ironsights alot more when there wasn’t a bunch of 13 year old faggots running around complaining about the lack of ironsights in everything from their video games to their breakfast cereal.

“This cereal has no irosight! It tastes awefull!”

Crosshairs are best IMHO, but my “boss” doesn’t think so… > :frowning:
But I still find ironsights rather enjoyable, since you feel like you actually take effort taking people down.

Ironsights are good for games like Call of Duty. Crosshairs are sufficient for games like Half-Life. Simple as.

Can’t say I prefer one over another, both are good if done correctly, I guess.

depends on the game, I’ll play with both.

For example, Brothers in Arms (the first 2, not the shitty third) I play without corsshairs, always using irons.

HL2? purely crosshairs.

Modern Warfare, a mix of both
.

Needs moar ironsights in mah cinnamon toast crunch.

For Iron Sights to make sense, sometimes you need to imagine that the FPS protagonist can only see out of their left eyeball.

I’m more affine to dynamic headbobbing and view-model wagging than iron sights, just because badass action dudes don’t have time to aim with precision.

To be honest, I’m not into ultra-realistic war-simulation type games, so the only game I can think of that I’ve even used Iron Sights in is SMOD. Didn’t really care for it. Lack of crosshairs or if it actually improved your aim considerably are the only reasons I could see to want to use iron-sites. Neither of these seemed to apply to SMOD, so it’s probably a bad example.

Holy shit you just a whole word :fffuuu:

I for one always disable crosshairs. Even in games that don’t have ironsights. I just prefer it that way.
