Installation issues

Hi there, first timer posting.

So, i followed all the instructions, downloaded everything from file front, have SDK 2007 installed, exited of steam, installed black mesa, and when i try to run it, i get this message:

"Setup file ‘gameinfo.txt’ doesn’t exist in subdirectory ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\sourcemods\BMS’.
Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting.

Also, the black mesa option does not appear in the library. What do i do??

I think you need to create gameinfo.txt in your BMS folder. This is what mine looks like.

“GameInfo”
{
game “Black Mesa”
title “BL@CK MESA”
title2 “”

developer	"Black Mesa Team"
developer_url	"https://www.blackmesasource.com/"
type		"singleplayer_only"

icon            "resource/bms"
nomodels	0
nocrosshair	1

hidden_maps
{
	"test_speakers"	1
	"test_hardware" 1
}

FileSystem
{
	SteamAppId 218
	ToolsAppId 211

	SearchPaths
	{
		Game |gameinfo_path|.
		Game hl2
		Game ep1
		Game ep2
		Game episodic
	}
}

}

So, for us computer challenged folks, how i would i go about doing this?

not sure why you even have to do this… it should have done it during installation.

Anyway, open notepad and copy paste that text into it. Then save the file as gameinfo.txt

i’m pretty sure it’s not just gameinfo.txt

you need to move BMS to the SourceMods folder in your Steam/SteamApps/ directory

but but but… when installing, it should automatically put it there.

well, black mesa setup looks in the registry to find out where Steam was installed to, but if Steam was moved after installation, it will get it wrong

to put it in layman terms: sometimes Steam is not where Black Mesa thinks it is

the part that really doesn’t make sense is that for Black Mesa to be in the steam games list, steam has to read from SteamApps/SourceMods/BMS/gameinfo.txt to get the game title :expressionless:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
