I would hope they would both be ported and bundled with each other. After all, odst did come with a complete collection of all halo 3 DLC.
Translation: it sucks.
I liked Halo 3, don’t get me wrong, but the draw distance still sucked.
10-14 miles sucks?
When 10-14 miles is relegated to the skybox and the foreground has pop-in, then yes, it can suck. (It has been a while since I played Halo 3, so I’m trying to remember if I’ve seen any pop-in…)
I know I have. They tend to ‘grain’ or ‘pixel’ in more so than ‘pop’. You could see pixels of the object begin to form and the closer you get the fuller the object gets, the farther away, the grainier it gets until it is gone.
I don’t mean the object gets pixelated in the usual sense. It’s almost like the object desolves pixel by pixel.
Also, the “long” draw-distance is more for the landscape and scenery, such as those aerial battles everywhere, rather than things that actually matter.
Sounds like you’re more worried about the LOD scaling to me…
No, again it’s not the typical pixelation. Sets of pixels will disappear continuously the farther away you get until the object is gone.
There was something similar in LA Noire. Things in the distance would “materialize” in a sort of pixelly way instead of just popping in. It was more annoying.
Like how in Half-Life 2 things tended to appear as silhouettes against the fog?
if the halos make it onto steam, they can have my wallet
Crysis did the same strange pixelation pop-in thing, and I always wondered why because it was clearly visible. Not sure if it worked the same in Crysis 2 retail, but I remember noticing it in one of the CE3 techdemos:

You can see the barrel on the dock further down “materialize” sort of, from a bunch of pixels, that’s what you mean right?
I think that’s better than a regular pop-in.
Reach and Halo 4 have worse pop-in than Halo 3. i didn’t even notice it in Halo 3.
Reach is definitely the worst offender, though.
That’s how they handle LOD transitions. That’s not the draw distance.
I loved that game when I was just a little lad! I have to play it again sometime.
I would treasure that memory, because the game definitely does not stand up to the nostalgia test.
Well then change every instance I mention draw distance to LOD scaling.
Whatever it is, it needs to be fixed before it’s ported.
