Improving performance on dm_crossfire

The performance on dm_crossfire is extremely bad compared to other maps. Can you try to optimize the map? Maybe working with areaportals or something like that?

lol “Working with areaportals”

Crossfire’s performance issues are known, it’s still being worked on.

There is another optimization pass in the pipeline and will be out at some point.

I too thought about area portals, but what they’ve done with the optimization just means they don’t really need to. the map itself lends to optimization, just the way it’s set up. So a lot of well placed hints, fade distances, and some areaportal windows and it’ll be better.

He’s not wrong. Besides on windows and doors, always-open areaportals on the ends of hallways/other connectors can really help improve performance on detail-heavy maps. Combined with proper hinting, of course.

We know about all these optimisation tricks - some of the team’s mappers are extremely talented at optimisation. Crossfire just had a … tricky dev cycle, and has some fairly unique problems, optimisation wise. We’ll get to it. No worries.

There is some problem

Which part of we are aware of the issues and are working on the fix was unclear?

I guess everything.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
