Just an idea to ramp up the difficulty in hard-mode, it would be pretty crazy if enemies spawned randomly. Even better if scripted spawn sequences changed up with every map load.
I think this would ruin the game tbh. This would also blow away the steadily increasing difficulty. Also the game tells us a story, which is one of the core elements of the HL franchise.
This idea might work in a Doom or Duke Nukem game which are all about shooting, killing n’chilling. But here, half the game is about using are wit and the environment if we want to proceed.
Yeah I see your point. This probably would hinder the story, rendering it into a doom clone of some sorts now that I think about it.
It would take a lot of work, also could result in quantities of enemy types being inconsistent and unbalanced, like 30 zombies spawning and just 1 Vort for example.
Well, it could be pseudo-random, with a limited number of enemies able to spawn, and not under certain conditions, like <5 total HP.
If it were to be done it would be best under these circumstances.
