I Let's Play Black Mesa On my Compaq Presario!

Ah yes the joys of not having a gaming rig.

However I found the Black Mesa played very well on my first time through when I recorded around 7,000 screenshots.

So I felt that I’d do a commentary free Let’s Play so people could see how it ran on the lower end of the spectrum. Starting in the 4th video I’ll be backing off the Particles some other than that though everything else will be on high.

I chose to play the game as if I were a scientist living out the events for the first time. I nod and shake my head often and try and convey silent panic when things inevitably go wrong.

Heh, I like doing that even if I’m not recording. :smiley:
But yeah, it’d be interesting seeing how this plays on a low-end machine that’s recording at the same time. Watching the video now.

Just thought I’d mention that having just recorded the footage for Part 4 Unforeseen Consequences- I had to back thing down to Medium for this part because as much as I tried and I did try four times to play it on High Settings…the recording was just too stutter y.

I’ll switch thing back up to High and test things out for the next section…mostly though I want the experience to look good for the viewer but more importantly play well enough so that I survive.

We’ll see how it goes.

By the end of the day we’ll see but I don’t think I’ll have uploaded all of Unforeseen Consequences. (Since I have only a slow connection at home I can only upload while I’m at the library or coffee shop ordinarily).

I do it simply because it’s all I can afford to do.

Of course when I’m not recording for LP’s Black Mesa runs really well- when I’m done with the LP I’m going to go through with everything full maxed simply to get the full game screenshotted as nice as it can look.

Alright folks we’ve hit Surface Tension and as I knew would happen I had a LOT of framerate issues. This did not come as a surprise at all, as I’ve said before it runs great when I’m not recording. Surface Tension is also the very reason why I chose to do this LP on Easy mode because if I hadn’t I’d have died a few billion times over by now.

So here’s the word of warning: These HAVE been edited to remove 5-10-15 seconds gaps of frozen movement and sound fx. In other words when the action gets frenetic (like especially fighting the tank) it will get choppy. I didn’t do a beauty pass on my cuts, I just made it smoother.

Alright…so I’ve finished with my Let’s Play of Black Mesa, as I’m typing this the last segment is uploading making it a 36 part collection.

I’d like to thank those who encouraged me to stick it out because it was worth it. Sometime later I will be doing a second LP of Black Mesa for PlanetPhillips The Replay Experience Experiment. Hopefully I’ll have a place where I can record good audio- regardless since my laptop didn’t explode I’ll be doing my second LP of Black Mesa on Normal.

Hey no fair, I had similar framerates but your credits scrolled a lot faster than mine.

Honestly, when I beat it the credits songs ended halfway through and I sat through the rest in silence expecting something interesting at the end to make up for the wait. [It didn’t.]
