I guess I have to be the one to remake the Assassin's Creed 3 thread

…wait… you live close…

That’s just how it’s being marketed. I’ll reserve judgement until I play it.

Long Island. What the media is calling “Frankenstorm” will be affecting much of the east coast, so we may very well be separated by hundreds of miles.

Yeah people all over the Island are being all edgy right now. We’re gonna be expecting some power outages in the next few days.

As for the game, I’d like to see both sides of the war represented. When I watched a Q&A session a while ago, the developers attempted to avoid the question of whether the British would be the only enemies. Hopefully that’s because there’s some sort of plot secret going on, rather than the game being one-sided.

Of course some ignorant people would assume that because this takes place during the revolution its some “GO 'MERICA!! KILL ALL NON-MERICANS” game. Haters gonna hate.

The setting is great and will play out well. There is a strong lack of games set in that time period.

Would the British being enemies really be that huge of an issue, though? Someone has to be the bad guy.

I’m hoping for a more neutral stance, or maybe a plot twist involving allegiances, but in the end I wouldn’t be all that upset or disheartened if the British were the only enemies. Much like I wouldn’t really care if you were battling Colonists.

I just think the whole “British = bad guys” thing has been overdone in all the Revolutionary War media. I’m ready for something new, tbh. There were plenty of outright filthy colonists back then too.

I always loved how the characters Mel Gibson would play in his “Fight the English” movies were utter dick heads in real life.

William Wallace was disliked by half of the Scots. He only really won one battle (and he was never in sole command) and this was won mainly due to the utter incompetence of the English commander. He lost one major battle and fled, which didn’t put him in a very good light with the rest of his peers.

The only notable thing about him was that he was hung and strangled until almost dead and then while he was still alive they cut off his cock, had his innards cut out and burned in front of him (although I’d assume that he was dead by that point) and then cut into pieces and had his limbs displayed in different cities around the country. His head was preserved and stuck on a pike in the tower of London.

As for Mel’s film The Patriot. The character the ‘patriot’ was based on was not really a pleasant guy.

Although one should note that this was written by a British historian. American historians defend his actions by saying, “Hey, that’s what people did in those days, so it’s cool”.

But yeah, it’s true. All British during the American War were evil.

You know that this is about as ignorant as saying that all American’s are fat, dumb warmongers. Good job.

Damn, if I wasn’t a penniless student, I would definitely buy this.

That was the point, you wanker.

I guess I can surmize your stance on the whole “ALL PATRIOTIC BRITS MUST BOYCOTT THIS GAME” thing.

By the way, I can’t think of a single person I know over here that holds respect for the historical accuracy of Mel Gibson’s movies (or the man himself, for that matter). He’s an ant-Semitic prick who produces some high budget movies. These movies, while entertaining, seem to focus on how barbaric non-American or non-Christian people are. In Apocalypto, for example, everyone is a brutal savage, with the quasi-messianic arrival of the Christian Europeans hinting at an end to their dreadfully backwards ways. He seems to have it in for the British, as well. Probabaly because he has half a brain and assumes that they were the bad guys that kept us from our freedom. This is the kind of stuff they tell us to simplify things in kindergarten and early elementary school. We learn the different sides of the conflict in high school, giving (most of us) a rounded view of what actually happened. I suspect good ol’ Mel was absent those days.

But yeah. Bringing up Mel Gibson is pretty stupid. Of course his movies are one-sided. Of course he produces historically inaccurate views. But he does the same for religion, both on screen and off. He’s a mockery, and if he’s the template you use for our historical intelligence and spiritual tolerance, then I don’t blame you for hating us. I blame you for using him as a template to base the rest of the US off of.

Isn’t Karamazov like a teacher irl or something? You’d think he’d be able to formulate educated opinions a bit better.

Just your typical anti-American zealot. If he’s a teacher, I fear he will impart his own sideways views on his students, creating a new generation of baseless hate. So sad.

Where have I been anti-American? I was having a totally random conversation about Mel Gibson and how he plays anti-British characters. Mel Gibson is Australian by the way.

Feel free to quote my anti-american comments. I really have missed them.

In my first post I said that I would take the character to the nearest guard and surrender. There is no scathing attack on America there. I simply worry for my historical computerised countrymen and don’t want them getting brutally murdered by some time travelling maniac. But if you can attach any racism to that, please explain how. I would like to know.

In my second post I simply pointed out that Mel Gibson (An Australian actor) portrays anti-british characters as heroes when in reality they weren’t as clean shaven and spotless as we are led to believe.

In my third post I pointed out your WingedOne’s tired comment about British teeth. It’s old, really old. If you’d like to see my teeth I would be happy to show you. They’re straight (I had braces as a kid) and pearly white. I floss and brush and even use mouthwash. I bet that blew your minds!

So again, please point out where I am being an anti-American zealot. Where have I even come close to demanding that British people boycott the game? Please point out what part of my short post suggested such a thing. Or can we just agree that your head is so far up your own ass that large amounts of shit are spewing forth from your mouth.
And Xalender, what does teaching have to do with writing an incoherent post about Mel Gibson? It wasn’t part of an argument or discussion, it was just a random point which occurred to me whilst reading this thread. Again, if you would like to expand on your point I would be grateful.

Mel Gibson, first off, is NOT Australian, he simply moved there when he was a teenager.

Second, I apologize. I misinterpreted your post as support for using Mel Gibson as representation as US sentiment as a whole, especially with you sarcastic remark at the end. Sort of an “Everything you believe is wrong, as evidenced by Mel Gibson, but you can believe it if you want” type deal.

Third:

As I said, my post was meant to be ironic. I do not actually believe all British (or any, for that matter) have terrible teeth.

Well, the Mel Gibson issue can be debated. You’re right that he was born in the US.
But then he was raised in Australia. So I guess this would bring up the issue of whether your birthplace or where you were raised makes who you are.

I always thought that Sam Neil was from New Zealand, but then I discovered that he was born in Ireland and then moved to NZ as a kid. So would that make him Irish, despite having no connection to Irish culture? I honestly can’t say.

Anyway, back on topic (kind of)
I have no issue with most Americans. I like most Americans and I’m glad that your comment about teeth was irony. Unfortunately as a Brit I hear this shit A LOT from Americans and they’re usually being serious. So can we hug and make out now?

I’d say that, if you moved at an age when you are still culturally impressionable (infant - about 7), you can call yourself by whatever nationality adjective applicable to your living situation. Any time after that and you’ll always be a stranger in a strange place.

And yes, let’s make sweet whoopee.

I do believe that the word you’re looking for is demonym.

Yes, I suppose.

BACK TO AC3
By god, if this storm keeps me from picking up my copy…

The storm is going to destroy all game stores on the East Coast.

And this is why the industry should move entirely to digital distribution. :bulb:

:retard:

god damn it I can’t tell if this is the Halo 4 thread or the ACIII thread :C

On the topic of the hurricane though, I was reading The Daily Mail’s take on it. Hilarious.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
