I also created a page on moddb https://www.moddb.com/mods/black-mesa-xen-improved-maps-from-half-life where you can later download Xen. Now to answer some questions.

HECU MARINE At the expense Gonarch not know

  • to mine on maps mbit I have not seen errors
  • HD skyboxes are likely to be later
  • The bodies of scientists in HEV will also probably later.

Mbit in that case I’d rather not change the tentacles.

Few suggestions :

  • maybe add more platforms in first chapter “xen”. That would make the illusion that the map is bigger then normally. Like I did in my map, there’s a thread with my map so you can see.

  • maybe add more displacements in the caves. I talk especially about interloper when they almost remain unchanged

  • maybe add more props and interactive elements like barrels etc. in interloper inside.

But that just suggestions. Of course it’s alpha then no need to hurry :smiley:

I think this project is kinda silly, too. It started as a joke, but now it’s legitimately trying to give bad maps half-decent textures. Eeehhhh…

Good idea. I would like to remake from old Xen maps into new Black Mesa Xen maps :slight_smile:

I have built same concepts of maps :confused: But i am not ready for completed xen map.

Vlad can you add another download source for Black mesa xen ? Because there are no mirrors on moddb for me and I can’t download. Maybe other people have this problem too.

Whoa-ho-ho, there. There’s no need to be so aggressive, haha. What we work on or how we do it has nothing to do with anything, here. I bring up Dky’s maps because this is his thread for his maps.

I think Xen is widely agreed to be pretty terrible. Wasn’t Xen Syndrome a trope for a while? I’m saying I think the maps need much more than a fresh coat of textures, but of course that’s just my opinion. His work in itself isn’t bad at all, but the maps themselves aren’t much improved.

And quit attacking the HC team. None of us did anything at all that should have set you off.

Crypt19 BTW I also think that this Projects meaningless, but in doing Xen I learned a lot in the source engine, and so I just felt sorry for the time spent at Xen and decided to finish it to the end. And I think that there’s anything wrong with that.

I don’t think meaningless. You have a good time making it, you learn some stuff, those are already good enough reasons to do almost anything. It’s just… silly, I guess. Your work is good, but I think having the old geometry and layout from HL seems kinda silly.

Here’s a suggestion. Instead of using the Noise setting with the displacement, you could always use the “Paint Geometry” setting, set the radius to large, and use Shift+Drag to make small adjustments and make the surface uneven.

The “Noise” button just makes everything jagged. Xen isn’t meant to be jagged… it’s meant to be smooth, curvy, and alien.

Other than that, it’s a pretty good start. :slight_smile:

Vlad I played your maps. They were really good. But I realised there are few things that would require change. My suggestions :

  • remake more cave systems and other places with displacements like you did with gonarch’s lair

  • add more music, custom maybe ? because when I played it was too quiet, no ambience, no music

  • add some props , custom or black mesa one

  • make better textures or at least change it’s resolution in interloper. I mean the one when you start the game there’s a main platform and it’s texture quiet sucks.

  • why won’t you add this blue and pink flowers which are custom assets of black mesa, they are pretty cool and maybe more xen plantlights ?

  • maybe add some alien flies or something that would look like xen is better inhabited and jungle-like

  • I think the best thing would be too add many many floating platforms in the background, that would really add the feeling that the map is more huge than it is in reality

BMS - Mscl_Ambience6 as ambience to Gonarch’s Lair
BMS - Mscl_Ambience4 as ambience to Interloper
BMS - Mscl_Ambience5 as ambience to Interloper Mines (the part with the hovering portal)
BMS - Mscl_Ambience7 as ambience near Nihilanth’s portal area (the one with red portal)
BMS - Mscl_Ambience3 as ambience to Nihilanth

Maybe you can link it to the actual credits of the game?

They are all background music located in BMS/sound/music

Also, can you make a transition from lambda core to xen chapter ? This would link your maps to original campaign that would be awesome and cool.

I am trying for nice look for Xen world. :slight_smile:

I think because Xen’s Sky looks with any moons and crashed planet like xen map c4a1 with planet’s sphere was splitted and fire burns from core by crashed Xen Planet.

And i have built same moon by Xen planet.

From Half-Life 1 Xen Map c4a1:

  • Don’t have same moons and crashed planet!
  • Don’t get better sky effect!

From Source-Engine Black Mesa : Source:

  • Have same moons and crashed planet!
  • Get better sky effect!

Do you know about xen map c4a1?

I have tried same moon on sky_camera. But i don’t think because same moons don’t collide again Xen planet.
