It has recently come to my attention that I am unable to find a donate link. I would love to donate money to not only encourage, but to reward the makers of the mod for their work. Unfortunately, due to the donate link being difficult to find, I am unable to do so.
On the off chance that there is not a donate buttion. When will such a thing be available? I’d expect one to atleast come up after the mod releases.
They can’t accept any dotations? What about Cinematic Mod, they have a donate button, what’s the difference between them? Both are mods that improve the graphics, models etc.
So I’m not an expert on this, but how can it be not allowed to accept money from someone?
If I choose to give someone money, that’s between me an them, isn’t it? I can understand how it’s not allowed to actually ASK for money for such a thing, but if one simply does it as a “personal favour”?
Well, I don’t know, it’s a shame, anyway, for people with such good intent.
It’s illegal but some modders apparently don’t care… The problem is not only Valve’s IP but also the Source license (and Adriana Lima’s face, lol). BTW FakeFactory is German and AFAIK Germany is very harsh against copyrights infringements
Creators of Blade Symphony (and Dystopia) were accepting money under “PHAN program” - also illegal, because you cannot make money with mods (even indirectly). Now they own Source license and they’ve got nice funding through kickstarter
Theoretically Black Mesa and Cinematic Mod are both illegal, but Valve is an awesome company and they even support mods which use their IP
Some non-profit(!) fan-made remakes of old games were shat down (with legal threats ) by owners of IPs, e.g. Chrono Trigger by Squre Enix.
In some countries there are legal problems even with accepting donations in general - for instance in Poland only Charities can organize donations (and in spite of this, there are hundreds of illegal “donate buttons”, like Minecraft servers support etc.)
Please forward your credit card number, name as it appears on the card, as well as your PIN number, billing address, bank account number and drivers license or ID number and I’ll get you taken care of right away!
Ethically, for the same reason that Congressmen aren’t allowed to accept millions of dollars as a “personal favor” from lobbyists. Intellectually, because Half-Life is Valve’s IP, and the dev team aren’t allowed to draw a profit related to it without Valve’s explicit consent.
I see you don’t know very much about CM. The main part of this mod is HD textures, better lighting, better HDR, better reflections etc. You can also use HD characters, HD weapons models, new music and difficulty changes, but it’s an addition! You don’t have to use it, most player disable those additions.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
