How to run HL2 in 32bit on 64bit OS...

Yes, it’s installed in the x86 folder.

Because the 64bit version was never really maintained, so any problems from 2005 are still there. Valve rushed the 64bit version of HL2 because of WinXP 64bit, it was all the rage back then to have 64bit on the box.

I know that not everyone experienced problems, but a lot of people did (and still do). Regardless of that, even if you don’t have any glitches it doesn’t really have any benefits. 64bit programmes are supposed to be a bit faster, and this one just doesn’t have that.

Valve themselves have admitted that the 64bit version has its problems.

Anyway, I’m gonna install from my HL2 CD so I guess it’ll be the 32bit version after all

Mine worked fine on 64-bit, but the only real change I NOTICED was the particles when Alyx was being teleported. Their paths were much more circular than broken-up-straight-line-y.

Or you could just add -32bit to the launch options…

Just installed it from the Orange Box DVD and it’s the 32bit version

Doesn’t 7 have an option to run a program in XP mode, like Vista does?

Reviews from 2005?

So all those problems are 5 year old problems that have probably been patched?

Only Windows 7 Ultimate.
Not that it’s badly needed, as most any program will run on it anyways.

Same for me, always has been this way.

Also windows 7 can do a million times better job at acting like XP than vista ever did, I’m pretty sure that’s the feature Microsoft worked on most since Vista’s release.

Read my previous comment:

… and Windows 7 Professional. I’ve got that and it has XP mode :stuck_out_tongue:

You have one more bit then the rest of us.

The new Cyrix 65bit processors from a company you can trust

Half-Life 2 defaults to the 64bit version for me and it works fines. Theres a little notification in the top left hand corner of the main menu that says 64bit mode. Im running W7 Ultimate 64bit and I have the steam version HL2 that was bought before the Orange Box was out.

The only issues i have is when running two games at once, other than that, no issue.

Strange, I’m running Win7 64bit too and when I installed HL2 from the Orange Box DVD it defaulted to 32bit.

Okay I see it clearly now, unless you install it from the DVD or copy your steam folder from your old HDD (like me) it will install the 64bit version.

Runs fine for me on windows 7. Actually I don’t know what I would do without 64bit, since I use the cinematic mod, which absolutely requires you to have 64bit. Valve didn’t plan for such huge amounts of local space to be used, once it gathers too much data from the hard drive, the engine crashes. With 64bit, enough space in the ram can be addressed which prevents the system from crashes.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
