How good will this mod run?

And put the shadows on medium.

If you want a huge FPS jump just switch to dx 8 mode (mat_dxlevel 81 in console)

But even on my shitty laptop I’m gonna play using dx9+ mode because I want to see black mesa in it’s full detail.

oh i can tf2 pretty well, but it gets kind of slow because of too much textures, i just paid for this geforce 7300 gt for almost 110 $ in Canadian money, i dont wanna pay for another one.

oh and 1 more thing, someone said on youtube that the modders for bms r redoing the entire engine, making it compatable with 7000 video cards. plus im only 14 and im not good at installing stuff manually and my parents wont get me another video card, a question for bms team, Why did u have to make the requirements similar to hl2 ep 2? still someone said on utube that u guys r redoing the engine to make run exactly like hl2 not hl2 ep 2.

Since we all know that youtube is more credible as a information source than the developers themselves.

Black Mesa has similar requirements as Episode Two since it uses Orange Box engine.

And please don’t double post. Edit your posts instead.

Do you put it in the console after you load up the game, or would a person set it as a launch command for the shortcut (+mat_dxlevel 81)? And is it permanent, or will it reset back to Dx9 when you restart the game? (Obviously not if you set it as a launch command)

It’s a launch command.

Well…I have a 5200 FX.

I really need an upgrade…

go into the launch options and type -dxlevel 8 or 81, depending on which one you want

No computers stores close to you?

Wrong. It will have higher requirements, because of the additional detail in modelling and textures apparently. But not by too much, if you can run Ep.2 comfortably, then you should be fine.
.

-dxlevel is a launch command

mat_dxlevel is a console command

If you want to permanently force a dx level just add mat_dxlevel 81 to your autoexec.cfg

Well that’s true. But I was saying it has similar requirements as Ep2 as opposed to similar requirements as HL2 like that random dude at youtube said.

You do realise you get better performance in fullscreen than in windowed mode?
On an LCD screen, you usually have the choice when running at less than native to stretch or not, so for max performance but max quality, run it fullscreen with stretching off.

My laptop is 1280x800 and I get a small slowdown when trying to run at that res, while in 1024x768 it’s completely fine, I’m running XP so there’s no difference between fs and window mode. Also I run CS:S at native res in fullscreen with no problems.

As for stretching, I run many other games stretched because they don’t have my native resolution in the options, so disabling it would be an annoyance.

Anyway yesterday I dropped it and the hard drive died so I’m probably gonna play black mesa on my desktop now.

Haha, I see…the engine has lost some of it’s performance, sure >.> I can run HL2 everything on, 2xAA, but TF2 on medium everything no AA.
.

It’s from both, actually. But I was referring to Yahtzee’s, so… +1 Interwebz.

It wont run at all, it doesn’t have any legs.

It ran away already. See link.

there’s no need to do that. I just added -dxlevel 81, ran the game, then took it out. It’ll stay in whatever mode you last set it to through using the console command. The reason to take it OUT after the first time you run the game is because otherwise it will reset all your OTHER video options every time you open the game up.

I will say this for my lappy; what few tricks it has, I love. It’s a widescreen laptop, but I was able to set the video card options to force ratio. So if I have a game that only lets me run in a 3:4 ratio, it’ll automatically scale everything to fit into the screen, but then put black bars at the edges so that it doesn’t stretch out of shape.

Mine can do all that, that pretty much comes standard with the nvidia drivers. I just need to buy a new hard drive.
