So, have found an obscure bug related to houndeyes.
Steps to reproduce:

  1. (Typically crouch-) Jump onto a houndeye.
  2. (Stand up if crouching, seems to not happen if you are.)
  3. Allow it to perform its sonic attack.
  4. Houndeye mount turns invisible.
