No.
That’s just baseless speculation. I don’t think that it’s even been officially hinted that time travel was involved anywhere.

there is a reason they said it would be the seven hour war all over again. A big portal opening and the combine invading.
That was in reference to the superportal in EP2 opening, not the Borealis.
Quite honestly I preffer Half-Life 1 over Half-Life 2. HL2’s gameplay is great (except the driving stages, I hate that) but I preffer HL1’s creepy claustrophobic setting. My biggest issue with HL2 is that the story has been so overdone.
Ok, so there is this big empire thingy and they take over the world whatever, so there is this group of rebels and then there is this other guy which is the chosen one of whatever to lead the rebels and bring down the empire. Luke Skywalker, John Connor, Lelouch Lamperouge, etc.
Though i admit it’s become a big cliché more after HL2’s release, maybe it’s my fault for playing it so late.
Honestly, I think that’s more the result of you not paying enough attention to the backstory rather than any failure on the game’s part.
Did you even read what Banethulhu said? His complaints apply regardless of whether one has paid attention to the backstory.
I never said it was a failure, I enjoy the game, and I never complained of the backstory or the lore as a whole. I just said I was displeased with the main focus behind half-life 2 which is leading a group of rebels to overthrow an empire, it’s an overused plot.
Half life 1 was just Doom and Quake’s story done relatively realistically. It was never about whether or not the concepts are original, it was always about how they were executed.
Don’t listen to Pyro.
TBH the plot is overused. In fact it has been a staple of stories for literally thousands of years across multiple media. However imo Half-Life 2 is one of the best told ‘versions’ of this story in computer gaming, film, and even books. This being due to it’s genre, characterization, general pacing and specific plot points.
You could make the same argument for a multitude of plots.
You can’t have a better story in a game unless at the cost of gameplay.
I call bullshit on that. Some of the best games I’ve ever played have had fantastic stories. Whilst at the same time some of the worst have also had dire stories.
I do get bored of these generalising, blanket statements constantly thrown out by gamers who clearly don’t think at all about what they’re saying.
Good writing doesn’t necessarily take away from gameplay, quite the reverse actually.

Oh and to answer the question of this thread: I honestly don’t know what to expect. People’s expectations are so high for this game, if valve doesn’t deliver there will be an outrage, but this is still Valve we are talking about, i personally think they cease to dissapoint with games, they are aware of the hype and expectations, and they want to deliver and please the audience.
I do like the claustrophobic setting as well. Hopefully, it returns, since Half-Life 3 most likely will take place in the Borealis, at least for a considerable part of the game.
Honestly, I hope note. It’s just one fairly small ship. It would get incredibly monotonous and there’s not even that much room for the game to take place in. Would they dedicate an entire chapter just to the cargo bay?
Plus HL1 had a good setting and every new chapter was something different thanks to the black mesa facility’s scope. Can’t really do that much with a ship.
GabeN said Episode 3 was gonna return Half-Life to it’s horror roots, and since that didn’t happen maybe it is in Half-Life 3, doesn’t have to be entirely in the borealis, some creepy arctic terror like “the thing” would be pretty sweet.
To know if the game’s any good or not then it would need to be RELEASED

Small ship?
Seems pretty big to me. Now I don’t want the ENTIRE game on it, but a good chunk of it, yes.
It looks big in this concept.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
