Hive Hand Tips?

Hi, everyone. During my first playthrough of BM, I never really understood how to use the hive hand. Then, I saw the alien grunts use it, and I had no idea how they could use it so effectively.

Any tips/strategies with using it?

right click till 0, then change weapon =)

Hah, that’s what I tried, it never really worked out too well  .

Use it to sniff out HECU before entering an area. You can clear entire rooms doing this without even having to enter them - HECU will die before they can get to you.

Use it as an ammo conserving way of killing barnacles (just right click spam them).

:o completely forgot about just firing it around walls and cover

Alright, cool. But, how do you get it to shoot around? Do you shoot at the cover, next to the cover, etc.?

they kinda move really randomly when they hit walls and… flesh-seek

Don’t forget: Its always better to shoot it empty. Then wait(!) till it is full to shoot again. This way, you get more bees on the way than with continuous shooting.

It’s perfect for when you want to conserve ammo. You can use it to safely kill headcrabs and barnacles. You can use it as an enemy detector; if you suspect that there are enemies around the corner or in the next area, you can fire a few shots and the thornets will zip towards whatever threat lies ahead.

Use it against the assassins. Its movement following capabilities is a god send for them since they like being so twitchy.

Yeah, I managed to slaughter the assassins easily by hiding in a corner and spamming it.

In fact, in the latter half of the game, I essentially used only the hivehand. I spammed it before entering an area until I saw that the bees started flying randomly instead of zoning in on a specific area-- with this tactic, I never even encountered a live assassin, and managed to slaughter tons of soldiers before they even realize I’m there.

Perhaps that was me taking advantage of that weapon, but regardless, it simplified the game for me considerably.

It’s also very effective against black ops (you’ll only encounter them once after getting this weapon ;/) because they move quickly and the hornets can track them.

just random of topic comment here.
am i the only one who thought that the animation of wearing the hive hand for the first time was a bit nasty.
srry if i irritate people with it but i has to say it
