So that really doesn’t bother you? Doesn’t it contrast with the kind of moods and atmosphere the rest of the game sets? It’s perplexing to wonder how people can (assumingly) take this game seriously with that kind of twist.
Well the scientists in both the original HL and BMS have cheesy voices and voice lines, and those were done intentionally, but I guess it’s because they more or less stayed true to their original forms, while the HECU in the original are portrayed differently than in BMS.
“DO IIIIIIT.”
What, exactly?
Something related to brony hatin’
Haha, yeah. That line and the “He got me!” are the two I dislike the most.
think they need to redo the hecu lines sorry but the make fun of set tehy have doesn’t make sense in the setting. only place I though the voices where even good is the grunt talking in the control room for the rocket. other than that they sucked,
I know that they where bad on purpose but bad is still bad and bad breaks game flow.
shouldn’t annoying V.A.ing help wanting to kill an enemy?
By this stroke of logic, every video game enemy ever should speak like Fred.
But as to the main thread, give it up. The game developers have already expressed that they want their voice acting to suck because they don’t want their game to immerse players; they consider it a Very Important Artistic Decision, and they’re not going to change it based on player feedback.
if it sucks it sucks, something sucking is bad no mater what… if it full releases on steam with that shit voice acting I bet the most popular download for BM would be a better voice acting pack for the grunts. (if there was one now I bet it would be used by 90% of players)
Facepalm your ass, dude
I dunno, I realise it’s completely over-the-top at times but I still think it sounds cool. It’s really not much worse than in the original Half-Life.
Despite this, I cringe in annoyance every time I hear “DOOOO IIIIIT” and “ASPFKLAHJBLH HE GOT ME”, but even then can’t help but giggle a bit at “I’M GONNA GET MEDIEVAL ON YOUR ASS”.
Still better than TFC’s “Excuse me! I’m in need of medical attention”. If you’re in that much pain it’s probably not likely you can manage that.
This man messed with the BM voices to sound more like the originals-distorted/grainy radio and different pitch.
I think the BM original voice sounds the best of the three.
I actually like some of the BM HECU voices, but then batman starts talking and that’s what really feels out of place.

I will repack it in the near future with regard to the new ST maps.
I don’t really like them, personally I would have preferred a mix of over the top movie / game style characters (older action movies, video games, goes without saying really), and down to earth style characters (war dramas (such as bob) are good examples) for the two voices.
As compromising as that sounds, I can’t imagine the styles blending together without one standing out over the other. The current lines themselves already do that with the rest of the game.
The HECU voices from the original HL.
The HECU voices from Black Mesa.
They don’t sound too dissimilar to me.
I don’t think they’re really portrayed that campy. For what it is, it’s fine. I hear them screaming in pain more than talking, anyway.
They’re voices are not that bad. They’re very competent, and I like how arrogant the marines sound. I also liked how the two dialogue scenes near the rocket launch section were acted. The marines cleary don’t understand what the hell is actually going on in BM, and some even voice reluctance in what they’re doing. The lines definitely sounded much clearer in the mod, with the aid of subtitles of course. I really don’t understand what level of acting you want the marines to sound like.
If you want them to sound more convincing then they are here, then why not get some real marines to do their voices? One is my best friend, and the intensity of his voice would probably make Gordon soil his pants.
