HECU vest skins

I am not sure if this is the right place to discuss this, but here goes. So I am trying to skin some of my soldiers using the joint ops v2 skinning mod. So under the farines folder, I try putting in the classic HL1 skin by SgtPieman, which doesn’t include a body.vmt file, rather simply a body.vct file. As a result, part of the vest that he is wearing still has the original skin on it, which looks really bad.

As you can see from the picture, the back portion of the marine has the “farine” skin from the Joint Ops pack. What file allows me to change that? When I put the body.vmt file from my Marine folder into the farine folder, it removes the splinter camo skin entirely from the marine. I have been trying to solve the problem by using trial and error but so far nothing has worked.

The .VTF is the file that contains the image of the texture, so you’ll need to edit that. The .VMT is a text file that tells the game how the texture should behave and the like. I don’t even know what the heck a .VCT is, honestly.

Ah, sorry, I meant the VTF. My mind was a bit muddled.

It’s strange though, when I use VTM from the “Farine” folder, most of the grunt does in fact change into that splitter camo, with only that back portion of the vest staying in that original “farine” texture. When I replaced the VTM file with the one found in the original “marine” folder (stock black mesa), it changes the whole skin to the stock black mesa skin. When I then import the VTM that came with the “farine” folder again, it once again only changes the back of the HECU vest, and makes the HECU wear splitter camo again. I don’t see what is so different with the VTM file that came with the “farine” folder and the “marine” folder, but for some reason the farine “folder” VTM file doesn’t completely override the body texture. Replacing it with the VTM files from the “carine”, “darine” and “barine” folders does the same thing as the VTM file from the “marine” folder, so I really don’t get it.

Edit: How would I go about editing a VTM file if I wanted to?

Would you mind uploading the file(s) you’re referring to so I can take a look?

These are the body.vtf and body.vmt files I am talking about.

Actually, I used a different skin for the “barines” folder, and the skin on gamebanana did not include a body.vtm file either. Yet, this was the result:

Surprisingly enough, this body.vtf file actually managed to change the whole vest into a certain camo.
It’s still contrasted with the results I got with the farines folder.

I did the exact same thing when I extracted the files into the barines and farines folder, yet one succeeded and one didn’t.

Looking at the VTFs, unless I’m misunderstanding the issue, the skin is appearing exactly as it’s intended. On both skins the entire vest should be black, except for the very back part (olive in “marines,” camo in “farines”).

That’s very odd… Alright, thanks.
