Heavy, Soft or Popular?

So why have some people here said rap?

I’m also a rather broad listener.

I listen to metal, rock, classic rock, progressive rock, progressive metal, drum’n’bass, electro, house and dubstep. The only kinds of music I truely can’t stand are Regeaton (thankfully my sister plays that all day long. Shit music, if you can even call it that.) And stuff like Hardcore etc (I mean the electronic hardcore, not the emo-ish hardcore, though not all to big a fan of that either.) And I’m not a fan of ‘not singing’. So basicely anything that’s more than 50% grunting/screaming/rapping I don’t listen to. Sing, or keep it instrumental.

I’m probably mostly a fan of progressive rock/metal. The band I listen to the most by far is Dream Theater, which is about a 1000 plays ahead of any other band I have on LastFM, even though it’s at around 1700~. I’m also a sucker for organs in progressive rock, which is probably due to Nobuo Uematsu who uses it alot in his boss battle songs etc. Not too fond of Emerson, Lake & Palmer though. They have a few fantastic songs, but is it me or do most organ parts just sound random and incohersive? Each time I hear that organ pop through it seem like he doesn’t care what the bass etc are doing and he just plays an entirely different song. Rant rant rant.

Mostly heavy (SOAD, Disturbed, Korn, Metallica, etc.) Some pop and rap when I’m with my friends, since I don’t find the reasoning behind listening to that stuff alone when it makes you want to dance.

Also dabble in some softer alternative and classic rock.

However, three things I don’t touch with a 10-foot-pole: 1. Miley Cyrus 2. Really heavy death metal fully consisting of incomprehensible screams(like what lolipop posted). 3. Country. Jesus Christ no.

This.

Miley Cyrus’ videos ain’t so bad. If you put them on mute, that is.

Indeed, but we’re talking about music, not ogling at hot music videos.

True dat.

At least with rap, even the most vicious of vicious gangsta rap, you can understand the lyrics most of the time.

What you posted was something out of the Star Wars Holiday Special.

Hey, it isn’t very hard to hear what CC is saying. Unless you’re not extremely concentrated.

I mainly listen to music released in a Creative Commons license.

Seriously, some of the best quality and best sounding music I have listened to in years.

Luckily, nobody even mentioned the Jonas Cunts. That’s the worst, fucking music, ever.

I’ll listen to anything really. As long as it’s pleasing to the ears. That includes rock, country, some rap, alternative, techno. Although I’m slightly inclined to like classic rock best.

Right now, I’m on an instrumental rock kick. The less lyrics, the better.

Misirlou FTW!

Bleh.

Check out Dick Dale’s Nitro, or pretty much anything from Dick Dale as well as from the Surfaris and the Ventures.

Yep, I know about those. It’s not just surf music that I like. It’s all kinds of instrumental rock. Misirlou was the first one that just came to my mind.

Andy McKee and Erik Mongrain are some great instrumentals, though I wouldn’t really call them rock-material :stuck_out_tongue:

This thread is about music, not amp distortion and garbled human sounds.

It might just be easier to post all the artists I own at least one full album of (generally meaning: I really like them). So no random bands and songs I like to listen to, but not worthy to get a whole album.
