Headcrab latch

Since this bad mechanic was scrapped (but the cheatcode is still in game), would it be possible that someone can finish this? The models are in the folder, but I think the materials are missing though.
It currently looks like this

EDIT:I’ve been experimenting with this a bit since Jenova explained it, and this is what it currently looks like:

Yes Material missing… I think that would actually be quite scary and good that

is it a screen overlay material? It would have been a good introduction to headcrabs in any case

Certainly makes headcrabs more dangerous

Probably animated screen overlay is my guess (including V_hands prizing off the critter?)

has anyone seen the actual material or was it never made?

think that it was made but removed do to making the headcrabs to hard or it being repetitive.

would be cool to see areas in game where a head crab tries to latch onto your head (right after the incident, and before you get your weapon. would be a good area). to bad they removed it.

This should be brought back for when you don’t have the crowbar…

uh that’s what I said.

I agree with you

Its not an overlay, the headcrab latch is a model :frowning: .It agree it would be a great introduction. The materials we’re made, but it used old HEV arms (I think the arms from the developer test video we’re different from the current build)

It got removed because the mechanic would be an pain in the ass for the player since you can encounter multiple enemies and not just zombies. If it latched onto the head, the player could not do anything to fight back and kill other enemies.Well that is what I remember from Gnosis’ blog before he removed the article due website update.

Glad this was never included as a real mechanic, it looks horribly annoying and totally out of sync with the rest of the HL series and modern games in general. Taking away player control for a certain amount of time just to cause damage is frustrating and annoying. The headcrab is a small, easy enemy, and should stay as such.

At the moment its a cheatcode, and I completly agree with that.
But it would be a fun idea to get a headcrab latched onto your head after you passed the controll room, but just for once probably.

that simply won´t work gameplay wise, neither story wise, when a headcrab stick to a head it cannot be removed without a serius injury and any help.

Agreed.

I hope the developers provide the missing materials or remove the console command completely.

I like the idea of this being an option. I saw one of the test vids that had the textures, and Gordon’s hands grab the headcrab inside its “mouth” and is trying to keep it off his head, so having it wouldn’t be unrealistic for the Half-Life in game reality. I don’t know if it would actually add anything to the game or not in terms of playability (sp?), but it would make certain parts fun IMO.

To have it included almost like a cut scene would be like a lesson learnt and that gordon almost became a zombie

Headcrab can NOT be taken off once latched onto. Also, I’d like to see you not go crazy with the elevator sequence sometimes in Unforeseen Consequences (the sequence with the cargo elevator there the 101st Headcrab division takes an airborne attack on you)

headcrab latches only when face to face and on 2 meters away.only an idiot would do its currently a UN finished cheat so stop bitching

Hey, I’m just saying…

No, you’re stating it like the mechanic is coming in the next update.

There appears to be a missunderstanding, I don’t see any part of my post suggesting a remotely close chance of this being added as a standart mechanic…

I just hate that about the internet: you can’t fully judge the way I say it/mean it because I can’t use my voice/gestures/mimic, which is an important key in this (for example in this case you couldn’t really spot the smile, could you), and so it sometimes looks like bitching while I’m actually making a little fun of it.

serza stay on topic.
