Has the mod team received any recognition by Valve since release?

I don’t recall anyone saying that in this thread. If they did (and I missed it), I think one could assume it would be hyperbole. I’m pretty sure that SOME of the valve staff have at least loaded up the mod, and played it.

the silent treatment is actually more exciting than coming out with a review… They cannot be fan boys…

Today McPixel become the fisrt Greenlight game to get to the Steam Store, I believe that this game and Black Mesa got Greenlit the same day.

The first time I wrote to the gaben address was after I finished playing through hl and hl2 and all the episodes the second time. I got a response from somebody, I recall his name was Paul. Anyway, after a few messages back and forth, I actually asked if it was true that he reads every one. He said yes, but as well as sitting waiting to be read by Gabe, they cycle around the office for anybody to respond to at their leisure.

BM team doesn’t have to be praised by Valve, the more important thing is to feel good about their work and having a happy and thankful fanbase.

I’d just like to know what the people who made the source material think.

To tell the truth, I don’t care… they better do hurry with HL3 instead of praising BM, honestly :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I think the Devs would take a nod and a wink from Valve as a huge compliment for a job well done.

One would think that Valve would have the ability and capacity to do both.

For christ’s sake, you got trolled! That quote above is made up!

There are rumors they make HL3 as a RPG

There are rumors that HL3 will be diddely daddely dupp.

Here’s part of an interview with Valve’s Chet Faliszek about playing BM.

Here’s the link to the full interview:

Sorry, the excerpt image didn’t turn out right. Go to the full interview link for his comments on BM. It’s just below the “Payday: The Heist” image.

You do realise that Half-Life was originally a Quake mod, don’t you? “below Valve quality”? Hardly. The team used what was available to them. They produced something exceptional. It has its faults, but so did the original HL, and that’s why there were (many) patches. I remember. I was there waiting for them to be released. BM has so few issues compared with the original first HL release… it’s fantastically polished compared to it.

Then there’s Counter-strike. A mod that became a fully-fledged game.

My oh my. Some people are really unappreciative. The game was released for free, out of love for the original game. Take it as that, and stop being so damn negative.

:fffuuu:

See even Valve calls it Black Mesa: Source.

I’ve read somewhere where some devs at Valve said that they didn’t play it yet.

And I’ve read in a forum that Marc Laidlaw did play it.

this mod is worse than the original and you think its better than any source game so far?

let me start the list

  1. terrible marine voice acting, it was done on purpose with no real reason, having normal voice actors dosent make you feel bad for the soldiers and its just so stupid they thought it would give sympathy.
  2. the terrible rebalancing of the weapons, the weapons have been rebalanced so bad its not even funny. they nerfed so many weapons for pointless re-balances that dont even line up with half-life 2! the crowbar, now near useless, the MP5 and pistol have been nerfed, the enemies have been beefed up without reason. what did they think they would acomplish?
  3. some of the map redesigns were just pointless, i can get wanting some new things to do in half-life especially since the first didnt exactly break up that much scenery wise, but to add in pointless sections like in sector C that werent there in the original and nobody asked for is just ridiculous, plus the fact that some chapters like on a rail got cut and im sure people would have much rather had the time spent on pointless new sections go towards the existing ones.

this mod isnt a remake of half-life. its what the mod devs think half-life should have been which quite frankly is terrible compared to the original with all the problems like rebalancing and changing enemy difficulty

“its what the mod devs think half-life should have been”

exactly, and that’s all you should have expected it to be

You realize Half-life was a cheesy game, right? It stands to reason that a faithful remake would be cheesy as well.

Just like in Half-Life, the weapons do less and the enemies have more. It doesn’t line up with HL2 because it’s not HL2. And it doesn’t have to, because the weapons in HL and HL2 are different weapons.

The fact that you used Anomalous Materials as your example is just laughable, since for the entirety of the chapter there isn’t a single accessible room that wasn’t in the original.
As for OAR, a lot of people hated the chapter, so they streamlined it.

I’m not saying BM is perfect, but it’s certainly a worthy remake of Half-Life, and it’s definitely better than most people can do, and better than basically anybody but the team would be inclined to. Basically, you’re just bitching about changes for the sake of bitching about them.
Step off.

I like those arguments. Are you one of those people who wished that BM:S was in the Goldsrc engine too? Probably would have boosted overall scores by 215019385%

I think it has some easily fixed things in it that don’t ruin it completely. You make it out to seem that they butchered it beyond reason. Many of those things you listed are simply playing style differences at fault. The crowbar isn’t meant to butcher houndeyes. It’s the headcrab/zombie killer. It also breaks things. If you played HL1 and ran around hacking everything down and LIVING…then I’m sorry…then the game must have been too easy.

Yeah the voice acting was corny, but I felt a lot of the HL1 voice acting was silly too.

On a Rail was long, repetitive, and quite honestly it was an annoying level for me. I liked every single level in the original more than it…except Residual Processing.

Pleasure chatting.

Oh and list your top 3 favorite source games. I want to see what they are. Might be worth playing.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
