Happy Birthday Half-life!

i think when this game comes out on steam the steam network will crash next the black mesa website will crash after that the entire worldwide internet will crash

lol, if black mesa hits during steam holiday sale 2013,

the MOMENT BMS hits steam store, the resulting server overload will manifest itself into our lord and savior Gabe, making him fatter than even the world’s wealth of hl3 fat jokes

Realistically speaking, I don’t think BM’s release on Steam will have as big an impact on the servers as a big time AAA game release.

We like to think too highly of BM since it’s this one thing we’ve all been following closely, but in terms of relative impact compared to the rest of the videogame market at large, it’s not much larger a release than a well marketed indie game.

I agree completely.

Still, as Half-Life was a milestone in gaming history, so is Black Mesa in modding history.

Word!

Not trying to deny its merits, it’s one of the most ambitious modding endeavors after all, but people shouldn’t try to overstate its scale in the grand scheme of things.

Especially since the majority of people who care about modding in the first place are PC gamers, I don’t see why a consolist would be hyped about a fan remake of a 15+ years old game which itself has taken 10 :expressionless: Black Mesa is a milestone for Half-Life community tho.

Wow, you just had to get that dig in, didn’t you?

They could always try tho, now that they have a license, isn’t it so that they can possibly release Black Mesa on consoles too ?

Pretty sure they’d need licenses and devkits from the console developers. They’ve already decided they’re not going to port to Mac, doubt they’d go through all the extra effort and expenses for a console release.

You guys should put the pre-order up on Steam right now and offer some nice pre-order bonuses like TF2 items and Xen Part 1 DLC.

Uhm… I’d acually kinda like that. Maybe. A little. I’m horrible aren’t I :fffuuu:

We need some Day One Black Mesa DRM

That is correct and that costs a lot of money. Plus many console manufacturers require you actually to have a real office with real security. They don’t want people to leak all their trade secrets.

I’m not sure where you’re getting this information from. I don’t think anyone on the team has ruled out a Mac port.

From here:

I guess it’s nothing definite, but you had said you probably wouldn’t be able to do a Mac or Linux port. Does it still stand as “probably not, but possibly”?

I guess this means that someone could do a Linux/Mac port, but not an official steam release Mac/Linux port.

Which is basically what I was saying anyway.

I guess they did leave it as a sort of maybe-ish answer, but they’re clearly leaning towards not doing it.

As long as I get my Xen, I’ll be happy.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
