Half-Life main menu black screen FIX

Maybe I was alone with this, maybe there are thousands more.

So, after more than a year I reinstalled Half-Life (steam version, on my Win8 64bit) to play it again. However, the moment I entered the main menu the screen went black.

To fix this :

  • launch Steam, and right click on the game. -> go to Properties -> select ‘set launch options’ and type this: “-nofbo”

Did you try updating your video drivers first to see if that solved the issue?

I keep my drivers up to date all the time. I also tried to fix the issue by tapping into the data execution prevention, or to launch steam and HL in various compatibility modes and different launch commands, but all those didn’t work.
