Okay, first of all based on the story it sounds like you’re talking about DOOM 3. Secondly, DOOM 3 came out after Half Life, and therefore DOOM 3 “is just another version” of Half Life. Half Life was a trendsetter.

Doom 1 followed a similar story to Doom 3, the only difference being that you weren’t transported to hell in the original so much as you naturally went to hell. The story wasn’t well conveyed in-game though, but you can find it in the Doom manual, and you can read about all the cutscenes they originally had planned in the Doom Bible. Interesting stuff in there.
