Half-Life Fan Movie Project

I made this second render of my Baby Headcrab model, to better show off the material I’m using.

A rotating view of the model can be found here:

I also switched from rotating the camera, to rotating the model.

Opinions before modelling?

Looks a lot like a regular crab, maybe tweak the coloring a bit?

By tweaking the colouring, do you mean, make it darker?

Okay, I’ve darkened the image, and updated the post.

The Gonarch is more like a dark peach color, not really red.

I’m struggling to understand your original suggestion about tweaking the colour then.

Is this better?

The Gonarch in-game is like a brown and dark purple with an off-white color for the middle, but your’s is more reddish and orange. I’ve put in a picture for reference:

Is this a better colour scheme?

Yeah, that looks really good.

Love your concept!

The biggest issue I have is that it looks like it’s made out of plastic and doesn’t come across as a living entity.

I would also suggest that the egg sack fade into a lighter color as shown in Kermit’s image.
It’s being stretched, due to its load of eggs, and the fading into lighter colors would indicate that and make it look more realistic.

Okay I’ve made that change to the egg sack.
Making it look less like plastic will require more work though, as I have to add texture to the highlights.

I haven’t posted an update in a while, but I’ve still been working on this.

I recently made an update to my explosion effects, here is a video showing my prototype:

Isn’t that more of a fireball considering that most explosions… explode?

You are correct.

any updates? i’m very excited about merging all half-life stories together…

I’ve been working on some very short teaser clips, the first of which I’m aiming to release by the end of this month.

They will focus on showing off the environments I have created since I haven’t posted anything relating to them.
The Xen rendering test I made two years ago doesn’t count.

There’s going to be a couple days delay on that first clip. I wanted to finish it up today, but I’ve been helping my Dad buy a new bed, as well as putting it together and getting rid of the old one.
I just thought I’d make this update just in case anyone would be disappointed on the 31st.
