Half-Life Date Confirmed

I’m perfectly okay with half life being set in 1998.

Great… Now whats gonna happen to the Apache? I bet it will be replaced by the Supercobra. Damn…

This is what happens when people don’t have sense of humor.

To kill the time, someone in VALVe writes a funny article, and suddenly, all of you go crazy.

RAWR!

No. Besides, shouldnt it already have been a supercobra anyways?

Okay I believe you now, someone on combine overwiki contacted one of the gameinformer writers and they confirmed the date.

Is it me or did ‘gameinformer’ keep on adding ‘shower curtain’ into each sentence of the history of aperture?

 i think they do.

by the way look at those lurkers. 45 guests? impressive!

Indeed I asked her, on Facebook. She (Meagan VanBurkleo) answered me: “All of that information, aside from the introduction, was supplied directly from Valve! Hope that helps!”. (screenshot)

Since so far Game Informer has been given us mostly exclusive info from Valve, I guess we can trust them. And I bet Marc and Gabe don’t really care. They don’t care about dates, they don’t care about canon (at least this is what they already said in the past), they just want to give us satisfying games. And while it is always cool to know it, HL being set in 1998 or 2006 doesn’t change anything to the game.

As for the factual information contained in that new paragraph, it does not really say that BM just discovered teleportation during that time, just that their work “ends the outside world”. As the timeline seems to be written from an Aperture point of view, they had no clue of what BM had been doing during all these years, and we don’t know what was officially known about BM’s progress on teleportation.

I don’t really think it’s set in '98 look at Gordon’s acceptance letter.

you’re a bit late

This is called a retcon. May writers use them, especially video game writers.

HL series retcons

how do they explain the LCD screens and mock-alienware PC towers all over the Aperture science labs?
actually… i think i’ve just decided… i’ve given up… i REALLY don’t care anymore… till Valve releases a clearly documented ultimatum in black and white… i’ll cease to give a rats ass about the date =.=

The box for Half Life clearly stated that the game took place in 200X.

Color LCD technology showed up as early as the 80s, also I’m sure in the HL world it was invented by none other than Black Mesa or Aperture!

Also the date is final, VALVe clearly didn’t care about the HL user manual(or whatever the picture comes from) enough or didn’t tell the story writer to review it.

well it seems Valve, the ultimate authority… doesn’t care… so should we?

They changed the article, It’s more complete. Read it all the way and you’ll get it.

That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you guys. I was one of the first people to get confirmation from Klow.

I’m not the only one who will say you should take everything the OW says with a grain of salt.

If you ask a random skinhead, he’ll say he’s not the only one who wants to tattoo a swastika across his asscheeks.

lol too true

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
