What is this HL3 you people are talking about ?
I realize Gabe isn’t part of the Dev team, but as the guy in charge, he should light a fire under the Dev team’s butts. He gives the impression in his recent interviews that there’s no priority in focusing on HL3. It’s all been on L4D2, Portal 2, DOTA2, CS-Global Ops. He should take himself out of Valve’s world and, as a an individual avid gamer, ask the question "it’s been 4 years, where is HL3?’
Hockey Legends 3. The third installment in a very underrated action/ sports series.
Yeah, It’s like GTA.
But with Hockey sticks.
Hockey Legends 3 : Rampage on the ice rink.
Can’t wait for it.
is it bad that sounds seriously badass to me
No
Put some spaces between that paragraph bro.
Devs have stated they’ve had no contact with Valve, other than telling them to remove “Source” from the name.
I always wanted a hockey game that played more like a third person shooter than a game.
Worfin has no vision.
Its only been 4 years. They aren’t making a short 3-4 hour episode with HL3 anymore. Its gonna be a full game, when you have a real game being made (not some copy paste game like COD) it takes time. Hell Skyrim took 5 years, yet there wasn’t much complaint about the length of development on that.
And just because they aren’t giving any info doesn’t mean its not in development it just means they are staying quiet about it.
Valve idea of a full game got pretty different from what it used to be recently.
I wouldn’t expect from hl3 more than 7h sp, if hl3 even exist and we wont get another episode joke.
And dude, skyrim took 3years to develop, and each cod takes 2 years, normal biig studios dont take this much time.
They really need to get their shit together, this is getting ridiculous, since i doubt we will see hl3 before the end 2012 unless it gets announced at this vga.
Makes sense now, thanks. Sounds awesome too.
EDIT : Love the gameplay and man, those teeth flying afer a good cross blow in the face is so realistic, gonna buy it right away
Oblivion was released in 2006.
Skyrim was released in 2011.
2011 - 2006 = 5 years
They haven’t released a real single player game aside from Portal 2 (which may have had a short SP but with the Co-Op it was a good length game) since HL2:EP2 so what have they done differently all their other games have been pretty complete I thought?
And HL3 (which they have pretty much announced it will be because they have given up on episodes) will be a far more complex game then a COD game. COD are the equivalent of a romantic comedy in the movie business cheap to make and quick to shit out, that are guaranteed to break even or better. and, as Acade pointed out, 2006-2011 is 5 years, sure they made no major announcements but even as they released Fallout 3 they said we are working on the next Elder Scrolls. Which is exactly what Valve has being doing with its releases if asked about HL3 when interviewed about their newer games, they simply state we’re working on it.
I love how players just gib when you elbow through them.
That’s because normal big studios set arbitrary deadlines and release inferior products on a regular basis. Valve still has the best business model of any game company out there. Also, I can’t believe you brought up COD as an example of a quick release model. They release quickly because they cut and copy most of the game from release to release.
yeah thats if they worked on skyrim from when oblivion was finished, but keep in mind they made fallout 3 in that time, and seeing how big that game was i pretty sure 95% of the team was involved, even if there wre ppl concepting skyrim at that point, the real work must have started after fallout 3 went gold.
Even if, you cant say valve way of doing things worked out good for hl2 episodes in the end. At this point im pretty sure even they think the experiment was a failure, even gabe says that in that portal 2 book. And look at rocksteady, they made arkham city, one of the best games in years, in just what, 2 years, with 3 times less employees. And lets be honesty, episode 1 and 2 were pretty average games. And portal 2 with clearly set deadline was amazing.
Cod is more equivalent of a big Hollywood blockbuster that is a actually pretty decent ( think dark knight more than transformers 2). Its now the biggest selling game in the industry, making the most money, and getting really good reviews. It also dominates every other multiplexer game.
At this point im not sure if hl3 will even be half as succesfull. The source engine is really dated at this point, hl series is irrelevant on the consoles, and it never was know for its shooting and gameplay mechanics. They better have some cool new gimmick, since i doubt the game will sell on story alone.
Then how can you complain about Half-Life (2: Episode) 3 taking a long time when Valve have given us Portal 2, both L4D games, and DotA 2 in the interim?
And CSGO.
Sure, this way of thinking we will be on l4d 15 before we see any hl games, why not ;f Its not like we dont have enough dota clones already, and cs 1,6 is still more popular than cs;s.
Also from what i remember eric saying, at maximum only 70 ppl were working at portal 2, from over 200 valve employees, where the core team was 40 ppl or something. And valve isnt making cs;go, they are only publishing it.
