Idk if thread like this has been made… It would be cool when something like this will happen when we get HEV:
HEV: Welcome to the H.E.V. mark 4 protective system. For use in hazardous environment conditions.
(Just nice WELCOME text in center or lower left(or in chat)
HEV: “Hi-Impact Reactive Armor activated”
(armor icon and status slowly appears)
HEV: “Atmospheric contaminant sensors activated”
(all control symbols like biohazard and radiation are fastly flashing and dissappear)
HEV: “Vital sign monitoring activated”
(health meter is fastly counting from 0 to 100 %)
HEV: “Automatic medical systems engaged”
(cross (+) icon appears near health meter)
HEV: “Defensive (wut?!) weapon selection system activated”
(maybe all slots flashing, there I haven’t ideas)
HEV: “Munition level monitoring activated”
(maybe place on screen where will be number of ammo will appear and dissappear, just for info)
HEV: “Communications interface online”
(maybe chat field and Voice symbol (that from multi when you are talking))
HEV: “Have a very safe day”
So you want the initialization to last until the end of the game?
Well, it seems a bit better than having the HUD just appear out of nowhere.
I have to agree with that.
I don’t know how the devs would pull that off, but it would be very awesome.
Wasn’t this already in HL?
no.this version is a one by one system meaning that not all things show up at the same time.
I think, theoretically, this should be possible, but unless there is a feature specifically supporting this effect it would take a massively cumbersome and impractical workaround to achieve.
My best guess is that even if it could be done, it wouldn’t. It’s a cool idea, but on top of the potentially cumbersome implementation, this type of effect was never in HL1 or even HL2 or the episodes. It would be like implementing the underwater barnacles idea; cool, but if you put them in Black Mesa, then people would be wondering why they showed up there and not in HL2 or the episodes.
Oh, ok.
Personally I like it the way it is.
I don’t think it would, though. From what I’ve heard, implementing VGUI effects is pretty simple in the Source engine. Fading in and out is possible with VGUI, and the thing with the health points counting up to 100 would be the same as on Episode 1 when your HEV suit goes back to normal and the suit level goes from 200 to 100.
Personally I like the idea a lot, it would make the HEV suit seem more like it has a computer in it. After all, computers load in sections.
VGUI is very flexible. Just play Gmod10 for examples. I love the idea, really.
Very nice idea. I’ve nothing else to say. Except that it would make the game even more awesome than it is by now.
It could be a quick little thing, like for about five seconds. The BM logo pops up in HEV orange with the text “Initializing…” and then disappears, some random numbers on the bottom, the danger lights flashing on and off one at a time, the Health filling up to 100 ect. If it could be implemented, and is easy and won’t delay the mod at all, this could be a pretty cool idea.
I agree; I like this idea.
Amazing suggestion, if this could be done it would be awesome and it would need to be implemented.
I like it! And who knows, it might even fit in with the story… I mean since the mark4 is older than the mark5, then perhaps the systems load slower on it too? Which would explain the HUD just popping up like it does in hl2…?
Always dreamed about that, even if it takes 20sec.
I thought not about that. I thought: It’s first time when it’s used. So it’s like tutorial where is everything. Cuz voice is slower than initialization
It already lasts a hell of a long time as it is. See Freeman’s Mind for just how long. The symbols would just be highlighted as the voice is speaking.
I don’t see anything wrong with this. It fits in with the subtle changes that BM is making to the HL world, and it suits the feel of the game. The Mark V suit felt more streamlined that the original - the Mark IV feels over the top, especially with the activation speech, and this would support it in a good way.
Having said that, I wouldn’t find any use for it, and I doubt anyone, even those who haven’t played HL before, would either. It would simply be for show.
^I agree, it would just make the initialization less boring.
