Guns

That post made no fucking sense.

Why?

Great for clearing out rabbit warrens.

“Here’s my old friend, who looks like a PSG-9. He was succeded by the G3. He should have been replaced by imageshack (!?) He was replaced by the G36. Here is the next generation, which looks suspicously like an M4. He has little friends that are Sig 550’s”

There, I think I translated.

Also:

The XM-8, scheduled to replace the M4, but was sadly a failure.

That’s on purpose. It’s the Heckler & Koch 416, intended to be a replacement for the M16 and M4 (hence the name).

Okay, maybe I should explain better.

The “old friend” is the FN FAL (first two pictures). In use by the German Army during the 70’s. It was replaced by the G3 (3rd picture, from Firearms Source). Before the Cold War ended, Heckler & Koch were working on a successor of the G3 that should use 5.56mm ammunition, which was intended to be the G41 (4th picture - no broken link seen here). As the Cold War was over, there was no need anymore for the G41, so the order was cancelled. Later the Bundeswehr requested a modernized assault rifle, again it should be capable of firing the same ammunition as the American M4 and M16. That was the G36 (5th picture), which is currently in use by the Bundeswehr. The next generation of assault rifles by Heckler & Koch are the G416 (5.56mm) and the G417 (7.62mm), seen on pictures 6 and 7.

And the “little companion” is what I prefer using in CS: Source. The Sig 552. The other assault rifles on the last picture are all basically the same design as the Sig. They look pretty cool to me, so I posted them, too. They have nothing to do with the Bundeswehr, I think they are either from Austria or Switzerland. The FN FAL is from Belgium.

@Master Chef: I like the design of the XM-8. Sad it was a failure. Do you happen to know why it was? I’d be interested in that. I have redone my previous posting. The G41 should now be visible.

AFAIK the XM8 was horribly unreliable and annoyingly bulky.

Plus I believe the cost was ridiculous.

I think you’re talking about the xm29.

The xm8 would have been totally awesome. Fucking bureaucracy.

The xm8 doesn’t have the issue with carbon getting into the reciever either.

It’s similar to the OICW: Epic Gun, but would have shot the country into recession faster than a speeding bullet if we equipped the entire USMC with it.

@intoobivion: Any cost comparisons of the guns, by chance?

:giggles:

Quite interesting to see.

The SCAR seemed like a shit gun to equip an entire army with, but I like HK’s idea of just replacing the barrels of M4’s with the 416’s.

Fix’d.

They costed about the same as a m4/416 IIRC.

Why do they want to keep the m4/m16 so badly?

They can say it’s tried and tested as much as they want, but that’s the way to keep getting our soldiers killed.

They wanted to keep guns entirely metal too, but now polymer has shown that it can hold its own too.

Because the U.S. economy is in the shitter and the more jobs we keep inside the country, the more jobs we keep. We have already sold out most jobs to foreign nations, so I don’t see why National Defense should be sold out to H&K. Plus, Colt has produced solid weaponry that is still good today, so why bother replacing it?

Gun Stats: The only stat needed is how well it can kill.

Everything else is irrelevant.

The Nambu failed in this regard. Check out how little recoil or noise it makes. It would take a whole mag to the chest to kill someone with it.
