I would prefer something with mystical magic, but it doesn’t HAVE to be a shooter.
Probably Wolfenstien. Even though I hate that series.
There is a special place in hell for anyone who takes that fuck-wit storyline from the new films into the canon realm. > > >
Edit: Double post, darn. My bad.
so for you magic has to be called magic(and shouldn’t be explained too far) to be magic?
you won’t find that so often(except magicka) due to the contradiction of guns(technology) and magic which is something that is never really explainable through science.
so people who use magic-like abilities wouldn’t call them magic if they would use guns too, because you would expect that in a technologically advanced time the “magic” would have been analyzed and explained by scientists and would thus not seem that “magical” anymore to some people.
If you are able to use guns you would expect an explanation why folks can throw things around with their mind(and other stuff) too. So complaining about magical abilities being explained in games like mass effect won’t get you far.
on a sidenote: magic is everywhere. it just needs a little fantasy/imagination. even knowing how things work doesn’t make them less magical if you don’t want them to.(I know I’m contradictory to what I wrote above above.) There was a BBC-documentation named “Wonders of The Solar System” with some british scientiest(forgot his name). He explained these wonders of anomalies in the solar system but still made you feel them as wonders because you could see that he did so too. I can only recommend the documentation(6 parts a one hour). Maybe you can find them on youtube. I took the HD-Version from there, I think it was deleted.
Get over yourself Mr. “I hate the new films because things are actually being explained”
It’s a Star Wars title made by George Lucas, it’s canon.
Now take your whiny shit elsewhere.
HG:L has locked content you have to pay for that horribly dis-balances the game. (PC & Console) even if it falls under the criteria of “magic with guns”.
It was made by the Diablo II team (old one, not the legacy team) after they broke off from Blizzard. That being said, it would fall under what you’re looking for, but I haven’t heard anything about it in a while. Latest is that its got locked content that you have to pay for to use/play (unlockable weapons, etc) and on it being just a base client, most of the shit you use is locked. Not really worth buying… it MAY have improved, but I can’t be sure of that.
Is anyone else seeing a pretty open gap in the modern FPS market here…
Arcanum, mix between Steampunk, guns and magic.
Magicka: Vietnam
…you should´ve just said that the game was a total failure…similar maps, same monsters, …I was getting bored in about half of the game :meh:
FF games combine guns and magic, though guns are always weaker.
Somebody already said it, but Undying combined them pretty well.
My dick is a gun that shoots magic, does that count?
Fable 2 and 3
We can now say that Undying is the most suitable game for requested combination
Even in a game like Final Fantasy 7, “Magic” is not “Magic” because it’s logically just using little pieces of crystal to harness the power of The Ancients for combat, which of course must seem like magic to primitive humans.
That said, FF7, while not a shooting game, has both guns and magic in its themes. People seem able to take plenty of bullets though.
Half Life 2, Where you control buttons, rotate valves and pick up stuff with your mind!
good point …but…isn´t that just ability?
Honestly of all the fantasy series I have read, I personally like the magic in the Inheritance Cycle the best. That’s Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and the as of yet unnamed book for those of you who don’t read it. It’s explained in a way that makes sense from both scientific and mystical standpoints. Oh, and if you mention the Eragon movie in connection to the books, you deserve to be lobotomized. That movie was complete shit.
“a total shit” is better description for the movie…
True. Fix’d it.
I love the inheritence cycle. I’m just waiting for the final book.
I think what people seem to not understand about magic is the manipulation of the area about you through natural means, not technological. If you think about what a fire is, you realise Fire is just intense friction that became visible and the heat is so intence it can keep itself going through various means. So to create a fireball, it’s the same theory just manipulate an area in the shape of an orb and heat it up to intense levels.in reality theres such a science behind the idea of magic that people don’t realize.
The force in the star wars series is magic because it’s manipulation of something through a jedi’s mind. or a sith for that matter. Thats why usually in stories or games, magic requires an incantation, a ritual or can be used instantaniously depending on the style. It’s a science, just like Technology.
