I’m just stating the obvious. Unless you live in a ghetto, in Africa or in a Middle-Eastern Country, you don’t have to defend yourself on a daily-basis, do you? Actually, I don’t think you need to defend yourself on a yearly-basis. Then why would you need a gun?
To hunt? I think we all agree that automatic weapons and handguns are a bit overkill to hunt. To protect yourself in case of corrupt government? I’m stating my personal opinion here, but I don’t think you could stand at one man versus your government. Also, there’s this nifty thing called the O.N.U. You may have heard of it, it’s pretty recent tho, 1945 if I remember correctly, that is there to prevent, along with many other, things like this happening.
But, I don’t think criminalizing firearms would be reasonable and effective because, as stated many times before, people would just go with the black market. What I think would work is laws similar to here. All your weapons must be registered in a firearm registry. Only adults should also be able to obtain a permit to buy a own a gun. Automatic weapons should be hardly available, and concealed handguns should be totally illegals. Sellers should also keep record of people who bought guns. And people should pass mental tests to get their licence to buy a gun.
These are strict laws, but they work. Only 30% of murders are committed by someone with a firearm here, in comparison to 70% in the United States.
FYI automatic weapons are illegal in the US and if you are going to buy one illegally then your gonna have to avoid the law hardcore and spend a lot, and I mean A LOT of money for one.

No matter how powerful a state is, a few thousand angry people with a fanatical devotion to their ideology can wreck your shit.
It’s a dark, terrible path for any movement to take, and I hope it’s never necessary for us to have to wage asymmetric warfare against the government, but if we ever devolve into a complete police state, as opposed to our current status as a partial one…then it’s our only option to free ourselves.

UN isn’t the world. Countries can still do what they like independently. Australia has peacekeeping troops in Timor but they aren’t part of any UN business.
