:U
wicky wild
I just read some of those articles, and all I have to say is:
It doesn’t get any gayer than this folks.
never heard of vulcans, cows or the CO2 under the Ocean?
Solar radiation is a natural process, we’re constantly being exposed to radiation emitted from the sun, the same kind of radiation found in a nuclear reactor. However, we don’t equate natural radiation exposure with walking into a reactor, even though the radiation is the same, it’s just the rate of exposure that is different. For obvious reasons.
touchy touchy.
i like steampunk
Increasing the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere prevents solar heat from radiating off the earth, causing it to become warmer. Simple.
They found evidence that one climate scientist was so paranoid about psychotic climate science denialists picking apart his research that he fudged some numbers. Obviously this disproves the entire theory.
And now we’re having one of the warmest springs on record. Not to mention that the global average temperature was one of the warmest winters on record.
i just cant even get it up anymore unless she is a 12 year old with the black lung. perhaps through a cunning mechanism of uselessly superglued watch parts however… this path we steampunks chose is not an easy one
But seriously, why do you care about greenpunk then? You act as though the steampunk genre will be annihilated by it.
Baconeggs, they are trying to do that, being the point of this article.
They probably won’t succeed but the fact that they’re even trying is so infuriating that… well, I wanted to boycott it.
Mattemuse, why does the Co2 do that? Most people then say the greenhouse effect. When I ask aboiut the greenhouse effect, they say that it’s Co2 in the atmosphere.
It’s circular logic, and people are eating it up!
And hercule poirots, I’m just going to pretend that isn’t half as creepy as it sounds.
Brokenfridgehinge is coming. Evryone look busy.
Goddammit reflexively doubled. Sorry.
Some years ago some religious nuts demanded that the word “hello” be replaced with “heaveno”. Was it infuriating that ghey even attempted this? Yes, but most people had the common sense to laugh briefly and say “no”, before moving on.
If people like steampunk it won’t go away, simple as that. Stories of knights and dragons are incredibly outdated, but people still like them so the stories continue.
most people who don’t study climate science don’t know enough about the chemical properties of CO2 to explain why it absorbs heat in the atmosphere. The fact that it does absorb heat isn’t even remotely controversial.
What I’d like to hear you or anyone else who has been conned into buying into denialism is, how do you explain the warming trend? There’s publicly available climate data from NASA that clearly and obviously shows the global temperature is rising faster in the 19th/20th century than at any other time in history. So, lets assume that America’s oligarchs are correct and it’s not caused by CO2. What has changed in the past century which is causing global temperatures to rise at an unprecedented rate?
Show me this.
I’ve looked for these but can’t find them.
Also, if there is a reason it would be because we are exiting a long ice age.
It doesn’t change the fact that the globe…
IS WARMING.:hmph:
Show you what, information about the chemical properties of CO2? Okay…(google)
Molecules can absorb and emit three kinds of energy: energy from the excitation of electrons, energy from rotational motion, and energy from vibrational motion. The first kind of energy is also exhibited by atoms, but the second and third are restricted to molecules. A molecule can rotate about its center of gravity (there are three mutually perpendicular axes through the center of gravity). Vibrational energy is gained and lost as the bonds between atoms, which may be thought of as springs, expand and contract and bend. The three kinds of energy are associated with different portions of the spectrum: electronic energy is typically in the visible and ultraviolet portions of the spectrum (for example, wavelength of 1 micrometer, vibrational energy in the near infrared and infrared (for example, wavelength of 3 micrometers), and rotational energy in the far infrared to microwave (for example, wavelength of 100 micrometers). The specific wavelength of absorption and emission depends on the type of bond and the type of group of atoms within a molecule. Thus, the stretching of the C-H bond in the CH2 and CH3 groups involves infrared energy with a wavelength of 3.3-3.4 micrometers. What makes certain gases, such as carbon dioxide, act as “greenhouse” gases is that they happen to have vibrational modes that absorb energy in the infrared wavelengths at which the earth radiates energy to space. In fact, the measured “peaks” of infrared absorbance are often broadened because of the overlap of several electronic, rotational, and vibrational energies from the several-to-many atoms and interatomic bonds in the molecules. Got it?
edit? Or did you mean the NASA surface temperature data? https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/
Anyway, here’s the problem with your “exiting a long ice age” hypothesis. It takes hundreds of thousands of years to enter and exit ice ages (because of variations in the earths orbit or something). It’s a slow, constant change. Since it’s now happening hundreds of times faster than it has historically, there needs to be some explanation for the difference.
If you’re correct that the globe is getting warmer because of the cycle of ice ages, what would you say is causing this cycle to be different from all the other past cycles?
Fallout takes place in the future and isn’t inspired by Victorian archetypes.
I prefer the things that ae unfortunately classified with a mega-dumb term: cyberpunk, which is things like Robocop and Judge Dredd and The Dark Knight Returns
On the topic of terminology:
Climate Change: The alteration of the Earth’s climate. This IS happening, don’t deny it.
Global Warming: The theory that excessive CO2 emissions are causing climate change
Both of those things ARE happening, and the reason nobody can come up with a valid explanation for the increasing rate of climate change in the past century other than CO2 emissions is because there is none.
