Rats were removed creatures, so probably not.
They were unfinished, but not removed. I wish they had been finished, they’d be a nice detail, especially coupled in industrial areas with the roaches.
So I was playing ep1 yesterday, and when I was going through the hospital I wondered why there were all of those supply crates just sitting in the bathtubs in the side rooms. They’re obviously for the combine, but they never seem to get used.
I think Black Mesa’s obsession with crates would be more justified if we saw some soldiers actually breaking open crates or at least some evidence of crates being broken open, so they don’t just sit there until you come along.
You have to remember that many places in BM were specifically designed (or being used) as storage facilities; so it makes sense in some places to have lots of crates. In HL1 they are not specifically for the marines; they are also for facility storage, unlike the supply crates in HL2 which are used by the rebels and combine specifically.
I know, but I’m thinking specifically about certain places like the bunker in Power Up or some of the outdoor areas where grunts are posted.
I’ll try rewrite that piece of shit I’ve made.
What’s the point for the HECU for breaking some crates ? Since they stay less than 24 hours in Black Mesa, they don’t have time to run out of ammo or equipement (which are mostly stored in those crates) so they don’t need to break them.
Unless they crowbar those crates to make some space or searching specific items in them (like top secret high-tech devices), why will they do that ?
Furthermore how could you see that kind of scene without being notice : bullet-proof glass ?
Care to reword that? I don’t quite get what you’re saying.
I think Mont_Blanc’s English is getting worse. I used to be able to read his posts just fine. But it’s getting hard now.
i think gordon frohman would tell you that the reason there are so many crates is the same reason why there are so many explosive barrels scattered around.
Little suggestion for the wooden bridge, you see here: https://www.blackmesasource.com/media/wallpapers/BM_ST_Wallpaper_1280x800.jpg
I think it would be a cool effect, if the bridge would swing a little bit, if the player walks over it.
If I remember right, the planks of the bridge broke when you stepped on them.
Yeah, half of them did. I always ran on the rope XD
Guess I can’t do that in BM!
Though, again, if I remember right… Not all of the planks were there in the first place, you had to jump to them, and then jump off again. I could be completely wrong.
Yes, that’s right. That’s one reason why I died twice back then at this point.
But as I said, besides the breaking planks, the planks/the whole bridge should also move a little bit, if the player steps on them to reinforce the impression, that the bridge is far away from stable.
Why is there a bridge at all? If I recall, it doesn’t go anywhere, and there is already a cliffside path right next to it. The bridge always seemed kind of redundant.
The cliffside path was about 20-30 feet above it, if I remember right. And there was an HEV Suit battery on the other side, but that’s it.
Maybe they should add an locked door on the other side so it at least looks like it has a reason for being there.
Caved-in cave? That might work.
That doesn’t lead anywhere?
Yeah. It would be exactly the same as a locked door, but fit in better with the cliff.
