Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

Yep.

I’d like to see more useable light switches. I know that their where a couple in office complex and that they don’t really help gameplay, but I just love turning lights on and off!

Turning Lights On and Off: Source

Just watched the trailer, when the guard looks at something else (around 0:25), the eye movement looks unnatural. The head should move, not only the eyes. Or is this a problem of the engine?

I just watched through what you were talking about. I have a few guesses as to the issue:

  1. the video broke off at just the WRONG time for the eye movement to look right. That could have been teh first half a of an eyeflicker to gordon, and then back to the screen, but the scene cut just before the flicker back

  2. It has to do with the headtracking script that source might use combined with teh script to keep him looking t his computer monitor to seem busy. Basically while he was talking, the script forced him to keep his eyes on the monitor, after he’s done talking the script is set to keep his head fixed on the monitor so he appears actually involved in what he’s doing, but they made his eyes move so you can still tell that he’s focused on you.

  3. They might have actually messed up the animation for that last part, it isn’t a huge thing that’s easy to notice. However, it’s not a head animation that’s missing, it’s the lack of eyebrow movement that makes it look unnatural.

Is that a real problem for you since you won’t even see it during the game.

Didn’t the devs say that they brought more Faceposer people on board and were working on improving the lipsynching/acting? (Not that they really need to…)

ye that mouth probably moves like that coz uhhh , THE GAME ISN’T FINISHED?

exactly my point.

Now for an actual on-topic suggestion (zOMG!)
How about Houndeyes breaking nearby windows/mugs/etc when they attack?
And this would probably be changing the HL formula too much, but it’s always bothered me that the MP5, known for being very accurate, is so inaccurate in-game. Shotguns also have a much tighter of fire (or whatever it’s called) in real life than they do in video games/movies.

MYYYY GAAAAAAAAAAAWD

What are you DOING?

Oh hey, what’s up with the zombie that just has a seizure in front of the computer?

He didn’t move an inch since 98.
Must looking a very, very long porn

Looks fine to me. He doesn’t necessarily have to turn his head JUST FOR YOU!

Shot pattern?

Remember that Freeman never uses the stock for the shotgun or the MP5, but prefers to hold it out in front of him. He has also only had some basic training with one of those weapons, and is hardly a trained gunman.

The shotgun blast pattern for Half Life 2 has a more realistic spread than HL’s version, so I wonder which one the devs are using?

I believe all the known weapon changes are here. None answering your shotgun question yet though, I’m sure that thread will be updated when answers are given.

:jizz :@

fix’d

I agree with what you’re saying about the shotgun’s choke, but I find it funny that the MP5, with a longer barrel, is wildly inaccurate while the pistol, which are very hard for inexperienced users to shoot accurately, has nearly 100% accuracy.

In B4 “Because it’s just a game”.

I remember the MP5 in half life being pretty accurate, though it’s been a while and I might be wrong. now the MP7 in hl2 was horribly inaccurate and the MP7 I think is much more accurate than the MP5, I wish I knew how to hack stuff like that.

WHO CARES! ITS JUST A GAAAAAME!!! Oh wai…

Despite being very well done, did anyone else think that Black Mesa’s theme doesn’t really fit in with the general feel of Half Life enough to be the main theme? I could easily see it being used for say, meeting Eli and a hurt Kleiner after the Resonance Cascade, but as a whole it’s just too quiet and solumn to represent a game as fast-paced and dramatic as Half Life.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
