Now that’s an idea.
Says who fucko?
If you want my semi expert opinion…(which you probably don’t) SMG’s are basically short assualt rifles that usually fire the same ammunition you would find in pistols. Pistols are much harder to be accurate with than shoulder fired weapons because you can’t hold them tightly into your shoulder to reduce muscle twitch, muzzle jump and recoil. Pistols are usually light in comparison and their firing mechanisms tend to increase recoil(due to the fact that they eject spent casings, cock the hammer, and chamber the next round in the magazine using the recoil of the previous round. SMG’s are much more accurate, have higher rates of fire, less recoil, higher magazine capacities and tend to have longer ranges(because they typically have longer barrels). Pistols are usually used as a back up to a long gun(assault rifle, shotgun, SMG, or machinegun). Most pistols have a maximum effective range of 50 yards and you practically have to do everything perfect to hit a target at that range. A target at 25 yards is considered long range for a pistol. Not argueing for or against either party, just putting the info out there.
A silenced mp5k would be badass, but a silenced pistol is more sleek and fitting to the assassin.
I say reduce the number of assassins you encounter in the game but provide them with the ability to ambush you from behind and slit your throat.
Expert opinion is always welcomed in my opinion. And I agree with you…in real life. And that’s where the problem comes in. Give me a bolt action over a semi-automatic rifle on most days of the week, in real life. But in a game that doesn’t usually account for things like the accuracy differences between the two aforementioned weapons, people go with “well this one shoots more!” And consider Half-Life 1, where the Glock is probably the most accurate gun in the game (third, perhaps, to the .357 and crossbow). I always tried firing the M4/MP5 one shot at a time in Half-Life 1, but it felt like every third bullet would miss, regardless of burst/full/single control.
shrug In every game, every weapon has its own “feel” that determines how it will be used, and that sometimes contradicts the real life foundation the weapon is based upon (MP5 in real life - close to medium range, pretty accurate, but grab the SMG in Half-Life 2 and you can empty a full clip before a zombie goes down).
In Half-Life, my rule is to use against your human enemies whatever they use against you, because then you can pick up the ammo you just lost
It isn’t always a good idea though.
Hmm, good point. While we’re add it, let’s add ironsights, male assassins, and rewrite the entire plot to center around Adrian Shepard.
[/sarcasm]
I like how this guy thinks.
needs moar Dead Space
Just to clarify, are you referring to me?
[COLOR=‘Red’]Children, stop fighting or else I’ll be handing out PMfractions and Pretendbans.
You are 240 pages late, sir. :3
Ironically saying I think his ideas are good, still keeping in mind it was sarcastic.
C’mon.
:fffuuu:
Real men use hand crank gatlings.
That would be extremely annoying and pointless. Fighting thr assasins is meant to be an intense duel, having them just run around and insta-kill you makes them seem like cheap bastards instead of fair opponents.
u mad? There’s a reason Germany doesn’t use K98s anymore.
He was talking about sniper rifles, where bolt-action rifles are still common.
How about making the vortigaunts blink every once and a while?
Yeah, but this is videogame world. There where people can’t handle recoil. Also, even if it was accurate, on hard mode the smg is pretty underpowered, because it has low stopping power. The shotgun was just completely necessary to survive, and the smg was just a weapon to use if I needed the grenades.
Good point. While we’re at it, let’s add zombie security guards, change the alien grunt, the HECU, and the entire layout of the game. Oh wait -
Stop being facetious and haughty. These things change because it makes logical sense to include them, just as it makes logical sense to give the assassins silenced MP5s for the reasons that Javid has given. No it might not be in the final game, but that’s what suggestions are for. I would just rather you didn’t accuse me of whining when I suggested it in the shortest sentence possible.
Again, we’re talking about NPCs using these weapons. No one cares about your own opinions on the SMG at the moment because they don’t apply to this particular case. NPCs who use an MP5 can be as accurate or as inaccurate as the devs please. We’re talking about the feasibility of the assassins using a silenced MP5, not the arguments for and against using SMGs in videogames. Learn to distinguish.
