Got a Quick Suggestion? - Small suggestions that don't need their own thread

We all know it’s a WIP screenshot but this chapter is most likely to be left more or less like shown in this picture. I’ll can say that because few month before Ram said so (If I remember correctly, someone asked to change few things in the lobby but Jameskane and Ram argue that Anomalous Materials and Unforeseen Consequences chapters are somewhat done).
Give me few hours and I’ll find thoses posts.

EDIT : Crap, it’s not in GAQT, it must be somewhere in this thread or it has been lost with May’s crash…

Neither are pixel shaders, dynamic shadows, normal mapping, bump mapping, and reflective maps, but those somehow made it into the game

I already own a Glock 20 and CZ 75 for that

I always forget what an enormous impact those features have on gameplay. Oh wait…

Also, if Valve couldn’t have added those things to HL1. I’m pretty sure they wanted to. They could have added ironsights though. But they didn’t. Hm, I wonder what that could mean…

Well obviously not everything in BMS is 100% as it was in Half Life 1. That and the Quake 1 engine wasn’t exactly the most flexible with things like that. The movement speed for example is a lot slower than it was in HL1 for example I’m guessing. It would just lend to making the game more immersive feeling imo.

It’s more that there is a fundamental difference between a feature of a game engine and a design path used in a game.
There is no reason that all modern games don’t use ironsights, but a lot don’t because it’s not the game mechanic they wanted to use.

Well to be honest it’s become a pretty standard feature these days. Sans Valve games obviously. IIRC wasn’t the secondary fire on the revolver a zoom in? Why not give it iron sights+zoom, that’d give it a lot more visual oomph.

Iron sights are boring, plus the HEV suit has a (Either holo or Brain interface) HUD system.

I wish you wouldn’t call it a ‘feature’, because that’s not exactly accurate. It’s more of a design choice.
There is still a great number of 3d shooters that don’t use iron sights. Probably still more than half don’t ( don’t quote me on that ) , but the point is that it’s not fitting with the style of the game.

Plus you don’t need it. It’s not the kind of game where you need a feature to improve the accuracy of your shots by much since most have only a small amount of spread, if that.

Of that FPS games that came out this year that I can think off off of the top of my head, FEAR 2, Wolfenstein, Killing Floor, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Darkest Of Days, and that Halo one that came out, only one doesn’t have iron sights for all of the weapons.

Iron sights are pretty much only used in games that are “Uber realistic” (Ie. Not that fun) or gimicky.
Halo for sure is just a gimick game, the only reason the series exists anymore is to make more money.

BM is a remake of the best PC game ever, which was made to be a quality story, not an unoriginal money-maker. They. Will. Not. Use. Ironsights. Drop it.

Uh, Halo was the one that doesn’t have iron sights, and besides, I had more fun with the not that fun UBER REALISTIC killing floor with iron sights and no crosshairs than I did with the super fun and unrealistic left 4 dead that doesn’t have iron sights and has standard crosshairs :stuck_out_tongue:

You conveniently ignore this.

Aiming is for losers. Shooting from teh hipzorz ftw. :freeman:

He also seems to have forgotten that no matter how much he bitches and whines about it, it’s not getting in the mod.

Give me one good reason. One. Seriously.

Black Mesa is a reconstruction of Half-Life done they way the Devs feel that Valve would have done it if they had the technology they have now. Valve didn’t decide to put iron sights on any of the Half-Life series games so why would you expect it to be in Black Mesa? Half-Life 1: no iron sights, Half-Life 2: no iron sights, Half-Life 2 Episode 1: no iron sights, Half-Life 2 Episode 2: no iron sights, Black Mesa: NO FUCKING IRON SIGHTS! If you want iron sights go talk to the makers of Smod.

But can you think of any games that came out that are good?

As I pointed out I had a lot more fun with Killing Floor than I did with Left 4 Dead. CoJ is actually pretty good too

Whether a game is “good” is a matter of opinion. Saying Call of Juarez is good is your opinion.

Drop the fucking iron sights. THEY WILL NOT BE IN BLACK MESA.

Also, kudos to those who will recognize the CoJ italicization.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
