:brow:
yes, laidlaw said he was gone.
Oh well, if he said so, then everything is fine.
Basically the idea is that they COULD put Magnusson in due to lack of evidence to the contrary, but then a year down the track Valve go say “lololololololol Magnusson was never there” making the mods look a lot more stupid than if they hadn’t included him, which could be rationalised into “well he just wasn’t around when you were there”.
I’ve read the countless “too much realism sux” debates. And I know that many people could be pissed, but if it is not too much work (I know it is), some suggestions:
-
Reloading the Cobra when not all shots were fired should show Gordon’s hand closing the chambers which were not depleted with his thumb/hand and shaking the emptied cartridges out (like I believe is done by many not depleting his/her revolver). OK, that requires a new animation system reading the number of shots fired and “manually” reloading 4-5 chambers. But at least the “shaking out” could be done by not showing the animation fully, but just hinting this reload animation by showing Gordon press his hand against the drum half off screen.

Every collected magazine (MP, pistol) gets an ID, with a attached attribute remembering the bullet count. So say a magazine picked up at some point and not emptied is stored, but when its loaded it has the saved amount of bullets. That would mean you can’t use the pistol magazine ammo and the MP Ammo interchangeabely. Emptied magazines are lost. I dont think gordon is carrying them around anyway. And max Mp magazine size is 30 bullets. Crowssbow as above.
-
Quicker grenade throw and fall speed (but havoc should solve that).
-
Rifle grenades reloading animation.
-
Weaker booby-trap (giggle) ray/not visible ray, maybe under misty/smoky/dark conditions visible . Seems FUBAR every marine just runs through that ray considering they brought them to black mesa/use them.
Hope at least some of these suggestions were new and the post isn’t useless.
I would like to help you guys do those these things, but
“The board is lovely dark and deep,
but I have promises to keep,
and miles to code before I sleep,
and miles to code before I sleep.” (orig. by Robert Frost).
A lot of those ideas would require far too much effort to implement, especially that whole bullet-magazine association thing. I’m not sure there is a game that actually does this.
- Nope.
- Nope.
- N/A
- They tried that, it interfered with Gameplay too much, removed it.
- Not sure what you mean.
He’s saying that triplaser mines should have invisible lasers.
There is, but I forget the name.
Well, it has been implied that Soldier’s won’t fall for tripmines.
Tripmines with invisible lasers, that sounds nice. In my opinion tripmines never were a serious danger in singleplayer.
I entirely agree with all your suggestions. Half-Life was made at a time where video games were very tongue-in-cheek and there wasn’t much demand for realism. However, Black Mesa is trying to recreate it with the original feeling intact, and that means that certain gameplay features need to be retained.
The sort of features you want would be better suited to a different mod, one that isn’t tied down with recreating Half-Life rather than reinventing it. Hope this helps, and welcome to the forums dude.
Operation Flashpoint and it’s sequels do that or other military simulators as well.
That’s right, it was America’s Army I was thinking of. It keeps track of the amount of ammo in your other magazines.
I’ve never played America’s Army, out of principle.
To 1. 2. 3.: Good point, really sophisticated and elaborated.
- INTERFERE with gameplay? Come on! Ok, I can understand why it could annoy people not being able to launch 5 rifle greandes in 3 seconds. It is the biggest life saver when you try play the game without dying once. But how does that not allow you to enjoy half-life? Whatever the devs reasons are, and I bet they have good ones, it’s not that.
By the way: My hostility meter is showing a 1/10, did I say something wrong?
-
Would be difficult to do.
-
Maybe the H.E.V. Suit has an autoloader?
-
We don’t have to worry about.
-
Because you weren’t able to shoot while reloading it, and speeding up the load animation to shorten the time just looked bad.
Better, ok, makes me sort of abandon the field. Well as long as someone thought about it. Go on, stamp around on my suggestion-seeds. :meh:
Sorry for the nagging, and I know everything is still WIP, but I think that some of the screenshots (e.g. train station from inbound, blast pit) look too polished. Maybe some “dirt/dust” sprites could spice the areas up, and/or more small garbage lying around…
It’s a lab/research facility, they’re meant to be clean.
Don’t you think that depends on the area? It’s still also an old decommissioned missile base. And tram stations usually aren’t that clean… especially the floor.
