Gloun Gun

I was playing around with the skill.cfg file for HL and I noticed that the Gluon Gun has 2 damage settings, a “narrow” and a “wide”. The “narrow” does about half the damage of the “wide”. So, what does this mean? Oh, and you can call me stupid, but I’m almost possitive that the pressing the sec. fire on the gluon gun while you were shooting locked the beem in place and you could move around with the beem still in the same place you pionted it at.

EDIT: Oh, GLUON gun, I typed gloun gun, how stupid of me. :stuck_out_tongue:

The narrow beam was removed in final build of half - life and it will not be in Black Mesa.

The narrow beam in the original game code shows it would have done less damage and consumed less ammo.

I really like the idea of a narrow beam, but I think I understand why it wasn’t included. From what I remember, the gluon gun burns through its ammo a single unit at a time, so short bursts would work better at throttling your ammo use than switching to a narrow beam.

By the way, I found multiple sources saying that the gluon gun had a sec. fire mode in which it sort of locked onto a target, although it may have only been in deathmatch.

Glau Gun.

Inb4raminator :3

It would be cool to see it make a return, like on the gluon gun when you right click (which normaly does a animation) you could have a N/W setting and he N would do half damage but burn through the ammo slower and the W would deal more damage and burn through ammo faster.

It would be cool to see it return to the game, I would use it when fighting minor enimes.

It does that in SP as well - you have to fire the Gluon as you would normally, keep your finger on the trigger and then press and hold secondary fire as well. This does lock the beam in place and might have been useful for strafing whole rooms, but it doesn’t seem to work properly for whatever reason.

Try it now, but god mode is advisable if you indeed trying it out on a room full of Vorts.

The “Beam locking” is a bug where the fx was prevented from being destroyed.

The end point of the beam is computed only when the primary fire button is down. So, when you trigger the bug not only does the beam still show up but the end point does not update. Hence it looks like it is targeting something, but it is not.

I think it would be useful in DM at a distance, scaring other players away while you’re using no ammo, and then activating it when they’re being hit.

I haven’t tried it, though, and I dunno if it would work, because the beam may be client side.

Rather an exploit that wont be featured in BM :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, yeah, but if it’s server side in HLDM, it could be a useful exploit.

hey, not everybod know everything. something?

also I like the gluon gun a lot. but it does need to scatter a bit more if you hit walls.

i always thought the name of this weapon was egon D:
at least i always called it as egon

weapon_egon was the gluon gun.

I could have sworn that he calls it a quantum destabilizer. There is also a cheat for it,
“/give weapon_quantumdestabilizer”. It sounds more sciency than “gluon gun”, I think they changed the dialog, I used to have the original version.

For as long as I have owned HL ( 1998 ) the scientist always called it the Gluon Gun.

every time someone says Gluon gun all i can think of is Glue-On-Gun and wishing i could stick it to my forehead, therefore leaving my hands free for the essencials …

a Cup of tea and a cookie XD

I already made that joke but it got deleted during a massive off topic post deletion of this thread.

I suddenly realize what the walrus is holding. I’m still not clear what is on his head, though.
