It’s true. If she really doesn’t want to stop smoking, he can’t demand that she quit. It would kind of suck that the girl doesn’t care about his wishes anyway, so that might be another nail in the coffin…pun only partially intended.
He should kill her, as a demonstration of what she’s doing to her own health. Then maybe she’ll be convinced.
I think the issue here is different. Pokemon Eater’s post looks like saying that he has nothing with her and already wants to start judging and telling her she shouldn’t smoke because he hates it. That is different from being worried with her health. What you said actually sounds ten times more reasonable then what he said.
It’s easy to perceive people’s intention when they are talking. My bet is, if he asks her to stop smoking sounding like his post, she won’t like it, but, if it was you talking to her instead, she would not get angry at you and would answer nicely either “I know but I won’t/can’t stop” or “You are right, I should/am trying to stop”.
IMO, he has to make a decision: she smokes, period, does he want a relationship with her or not? If he does, he should first show that he cares about her and likes her and only then, in an opportune time, say what he feels about it.
The best thing you can do is start a relationship then gently suggest she cut back on smoking for her own health.
I actually fake interest and get into long, committed relationships with the sole purpose of getting that opportunity to tell a woman she should stop smoking, then walk off as if I just finished saying it to a total stranger, never to speak to her again.
