You seem to be facing things in a purely rational way. The fact is emotion is a very important thing in our lives to, you are underestimating its importance. We have emotions for a reason.
Mr. Shadow wants make a great proposal because he wants to prove his girlfriend that he is willing to dedicate his life and sacrifice himself for her. If he doesn’t even bother to prepare a nice proposal, why should she believe that he will have the necessary dedication when difficult times come? Why would she believe he will make efforts to make her happy if he can’t make her happy at the proposal?
Honestly, apathy is very bad in human relations. It is great if you want to live by yourself, having some friends and no family, but if you want company, if you want to live in society, you simply can’t be apathic.
