So I get to the part where you have to turn on the giant fan and dodge the blades on your way up the ladder and it crashes consistently on me. The fan spins up and gets to a critical speed then crashes.

Had this problem too. Here’s what worked for me:
I loaded save when i was going to climb down the ladder. Then i quick saved. Pulled the switch and as fast as possible climbed back up. After 5 tries i finally managed to get away from crashes and that killing fan.
I also continually crash a few moments after turning on the big fan. I have not been able to run away from it though.

On the level above, kill the zombie and smash everything - crates and pallets. Worked for me
