Get Black Mesa on Steam! We can do it!

i agree

Strenkor if you didn’t already notice Black Mesa is already featured in 80 collections which aren’t yours.

Also it doesn’t really help since the only way to view your collection is through the Black Mesa Greenlight page were it says collections. :fffuuu:

Alot of the comments in the collection are misleading they did not change Black Mesa to black mesa source it is the other way around, Its Black Mesa and has been for years and years uggh. My suggestion is to remove it, it just has misleading all over it :meh:

I just had the thought, valve might be using BM as hurdle for other projects. It’s indisputable, that bm will somehow make it on Steam. What if they use bm’s vote count as a gauge? It actually would be better, if bm stayed at this level - given, that other projects don’t catch up…
No other game/mod is likely to stir up as many votes in so little time.

You know, I would have really liked to see the look in Slender Source dev’s faces when they noticed a game got more votes than them in just two days…

Slender is probably working hard and may develop a great game in their own right. Rooting for BM doesn’t have to mean hating on other games too. It’s a big world.

I agree.

I disagree. Slender has very little going on at the moment. They have a couple ARG’s, which I guess is kind of interesting. But other than that they only have two very boring looking maps and a model which looks like Jack from that one Halloween stop animation movie.

I’m not saying we should be bashing other games… I’m just saying Slender hasn’t proven to deserve as many votes as it has. It would be different if we had a little more to go on so we could accurately vote, but we don’t. If anything deserves to rival BM, it’s Dream. Dream is a perfect example of a Greenlight game having all the necessary information to vote properly. I voted for that, too, by the way.

I’m not hating Slender really, I just would have loved to see their faces, that’s all

I don’t want to see this thread turn into a discussion or debate about Slender.

So, that’s enough Slender for this thread. If people really want to discuss it further, you can make a thread in Technology and Gaming.

Oh.

Never mind, thought you closed this thread.

Edit: I think we should begin a newly focused attempt at alerting the media of Black Mesa’s incredible acceleration ASAP. I’m talking multiple simultaneous e-mails to one site in particular. Once one reports it, the others will most likely follow. I suggest Kotaku, but I’m only saying that because I think a lot of gaming sites mooch off of that site. That’s only a suggestion though.

Ye, not only as a hurdle, but a measure!
After BM is on Steam, other Greenlight games need at least 0.5 BM to come through.

I know Greenlight has been incredibly buggy, but interestingly enough, I was able to vote for BMS twice. Once though Steam, which actually gave me a 26% rating, then once in an internet browser, where the percentage rating was down to 4% at the time. Perhaps the servers are split between the Steam UI and the SteamPowered website?

They most likely use a database server cluster (meaning several servers around the globe).
But there will be one master server which consolidates all the data, meaning: every user can only vote once (filtering out mutliple votes for the same game by the same userId).
Synchronizing a global server cluster isnt a trivial task and requieres some time as well. I have a bit experience in synchronizing Sql-Server Enterprise wide, and there are hundreds and hundreds of details to consider.
I think thats the cause of different figures and the possiblity to vote twice.
But in the end the master server will (or should be) correct all the data.

So, there are two pools, on for the client votes one for the brwoser votes?

Most likely the data server for the browser vote will be near the webserver delivering the page (I guess somewhere in the USA) and the client votes will be counted by a data server near to the location where you open your steam client.
But in the end all votes come together on the a ‘master’ which sorts out all double votes and synchronize the real results back to the ‘slave’ data servers, which will take some time.
(If there is no bug allowing double posts, which I doubt, because this is Data server Synchronisation 101)

Haven’t checked sites beyond this one, but I imagine there’s a lot of buzz on Steam itself and that BM is definitely on the radar. BM should be a Steam release, if not immediately, then eventually. It just seems both logical and appropriate that the flagship game be presented this way. Valve/Steam being the visionary it has been, have to be smart enough to see that this could be a boon for indies and ultimately the gaming community (hense the advent of Greenlight). Besides, if they figured out a way to make some coin off this and for the BM team as well, I would gladly pay. Win/win for all.

Since Black Mesa, with it’s current 41% is by far the most voted game, there is no doubt it will be avaible on Steam soon.

^This.

Also, Medkit, I love me some Star Wars, but your sig is annoys me. 1. Because it moves. 2. Because its HUGE.

BTW - have you already seen these great fanmade dvd sleeves by *Ünhi | .aсяopнoвїa. .ldr ?

I think the first one looks pretty cool - what do you think ?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
