Gearbox's Pitchford on "Multiplayer Obsession"

hl1 had them combined.

Also hl2dm has suffered a lot due to not being associated with the singleplayer actually.

Up until the somewhat recent orange box update for all hl2 games, they hadn’t updated it in years despite all the bugs and lack of updated features it has, and it still has major bugs, a lot of which were introduced by switching to orange box engine.

HL2DM wasn’t even as updated as CSS.

AGREED.

Due to this article and interview with Pitchford, I am now even more interested in seeing what the new Aliens game will be like:

I hope it eventually sees the light of day. Sorry if my post was a tad off topic.

I agree with what you’re saying but unfortunately there is no way for us to adjust it. In some senses, if they need to make the game sell-able they do need to incorporate the cries of all parties to an extent, otherwise it would sell to 1 niche and that would be it. I can list off a mile long list of games that made an attempt at this and just fell through the cracks or got poor ratings simply because it didn’t have a run and gun MP attachment of some form.

The only real way to fix the game market is to introduce and support fresh blood in the market. People who have fresh ideas and have the same thoughts regarding MP that this forum obviously does minus a few.

The biggest issue is that people call the singleplayer game “campaign”. What is up with that?

That’s Call of Duty influencing the game’s industry lingo far too much.

“Brink blurs the lines between single player and multi player.”
Sounds like this is what some of you are lookin for

If you go by sales pitch than every game out there is a perfect blockbuster…

Because story mode needs a real name besides “single player” now with the existence of coop. A name less shitty than story mode.

Why not just “the game” if the singeplayer is supposed to be the selling point?

But it’s in the Game of the Year Edition, & was added to the first version through patches. Before Human Revolution DE3 was going to be entirely multiplayer, but because Invisible War was a flop it got released as Project Snowblind.

This is why I thank God for developers like Valve and Remedy. Max Payne, Alan Wake, Half Life 2. All single player, all freaking awesome.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
