I really wish this shit would’ve cropped up when the mod community was in full swing.

A lot of people have been hating on ESO, pretty much since it was announced.
Personally, I’m tentatively interested in it, but I honestly can’t say I have very high hopes for it.

Only Peter Stormare could make Call of Duty look cool.
Peter Stormare is awesome. Nuff said.
Brb, playing Mercenaries 1 as Mattias Nilsson…
The voice over and music ain’t that good (It actually wasn’t made by the game’s writers), but GOD DAMN THAT ENDING

Also apparently the motion tracker’s red dots have been changed to white like the movie.
The guy doing this is Kevin Riepl. He scored Gears of War. You know, the one with the good score. The good score that sounds just like Aliens.
From what it sounds like, he may have not gotten the budget to get a live orchestra like he did here, but idk.
I’d be tempted to get Aliens:CM but I just can’t tell if the shooting gameplay is actually any good. It just doesn’t seem to pack the kind of punch I expect of colonial marines. Also, the lack of any real decent details in regards to the multiplayer options ( although I’m impressed with the amount of them ) makes me wonder if the competitive modes are going to be well done.
Added to that the fact I can’t actually get all of the in game weapons, levels and characters without spending ridiculous amounts of money on collectors editions, adding real stuff I don’t need ( nice figure, but wtf am I going to do with it? ) just adds to my annoyance at this kinda practice nowadays.
If I knew they’d be releasing ALL the extra crap at a reasonably later date ( i.e not 6 months down the line ) for a couple of quid I’d just pick up the regular edition. However I quite simply don’t know and I doubt sega does, waiting no doubt for sales figures. Thus I might never have a full product.
I’m gonna go forum adventuring to see if I can confirm this.
Wow ok normally I wouldn’t give a shit about Aliens etc. but actually that looks really awesome!
Given it’s Gearbox, though, I have really high standards after Borderlands 2.
I remember hearing that most of the stuff will be in the game at a later date, and also the characters are bonuses for pre-ordering too, so really the only stuff you can’t get if you don’t have the CE is some of the extra marine customization options, and 1 or 2 weapons
Holy shit that does sound just like Aliens.
Also, in that video the music sounded odd but in some of them the music actually sounds pretty good. I’m just worried, because while there are great ways to make music that isn’t performed, with a score like Aliens, usually the samples that are used for that always have a strange instrument that sounds odd and takes away from it.
I guess I’ll just have to wait and see when we hear more of the actual soundtrack.
Also, I am really hoping that power loader is controllable like ALICE in AvP 2, and not just a QTE sequence.
I mean I doubt it is since Gearbox seems to have a lot of shit down, but regardless that would be such a big disappointment.
For a game with a consistent character across multiple game modes, unable to unlock all the customisation options and weapons is just idiocy. I’m not about to potentially bet £40 on something we’ve tbh barely seen anything of. Added to that the endless pushing back of the game, the lack of demo and the lack of solid information less than a month before release, I think I’ll have to pass.
The game has been in development for SEVEN years now. No doubt some mechanics are going to feel archaic.
I’m willing to bet we’ll have control over it’s movements, however melee fighting and actually getting it through obstacles will be QTE.
I was more interested back when it was going to be a squad based shooter where you could actually command the squad like Republic Commando and Rainbow Six: Vegas. I think they changed it so you don’t have squad control now, they just fight at your side like Call of Duty. So fuck that.
It’s pretty much gonna be like the marine campaign of AvP 1/2, except it has full coop and you can actually do things like welding doors and placing sentry guns yourself instead of just coming across them. Idk about the campaign, but the cooperative survival mode from what they’ve shown off seems to suggest players deciding what to seal off and how to defend, so there’s still that.
Why do people keep thinking this? It was announced that long ago, but it was put on hold to focus on development of other titles, it’s only been in development really since a little while before DNF’s release. All the older stuff we saw before then were just renders and concepts
From what I heard the campaign is a linear story with a pseudo open world system. Like a hub area with a bunch of branching sub-environments.
I really want it to be that, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
That would be fucking great if it was, but yeah.
Well they’ve had the rights since the start of 2007, announced they were making a new game around the same time. A year later they’ve got the title and no doubt since then they’ve been working on it. So at least 5 years in development.
With all the delays and reworkings of the game I have serious doubts, as geeky as that is. If they weren’t working on it and it WAS on hold that only fuels my pessimism that mechanics of the game will feel archaic.
I’m not particularly bothered about the lack of squad commands, but I’d of liked more of a ‘free roam’ and more tactical options, as someone has already said the turrets only seem to be deployable in certain parts. Whilst the game itself looks extremely linear, but again, we’ve barely seen anything of it, with around 3 weeks to go. I’ll probably be renting.
You’re getting that turret thing from one demo that was shown years ago that had tutorial hints on.
It’s been said numerous times that the turret markers can be turned off in the options menu, and it will be forced off on higher difficulties.
Fair enough. Still, I haven’t seen enough of recent game footage to fork out the money they want. They are selling the game imo on name alone. Throwing a few videos at us isn’t going to sell me on it, as you said, they are years old.
Anyway… just been watching the 15 minute trailer for Bioshock Infinite, I remember not being interested in it before back when there was a thread on it, but now I’m sold. Day one purchase for sure. Looks AWESOME.
An interesting fantasy-ish world, fast thinking gameplay, and a ‘sidekick’ who won’t grate on me after the first few minutes. Hell I think she’ll give Alyx a run for her money.
This coming from someone who found Bioshock 1 and 2 a complete bore.
Not a trailer, but the first 20 minutes of A:CM on the 360
Combat is more interesting than I thought. Xeno meleeing aside (it’s pretty damn silly), the AI looks way more on the ball than I’ve been lead to believe. I love how the Lurker tries to lure the player behind a corner just to open up a flank.
I’m loving the sound design so far. The way the xeno’s wails reverb against the metal walls. UMPH. The Pulse rifles are a huge improvement from other pre-release media, and so is the voice acting.
Graphics are bog standard for a current gen title, but I’m not really too bothered.
Semi old school health and shield system looks like it could make shit get really suspenseful on higher difficulties.
Kevin Riepl’s score is fucking rock solid.
