Game crashes always on Tram intro

Hi guys got the game but can’t play the game loads but as soon as i am in the tram it crashes. I don’t get any minidump files in the source folder is that because I havn’t even got to a save? . But anyway got the latest drivers, Windows 7 service pack 1 but just freezes on the tram . Any ideas

Same. More grammatically correct:

Black Mesa starts up, loads no problem. Anywhere between 1 to 20 seconds later the game crashes. For me it takes all of the pc with it, monitors get no signal, headphones get repeating bugged sound and all that’s left is fans running. You end up having to manually power down the pc to restart.

I get this crash as well!! It happens to me at the very beginning tram level, I usually make it past the first loading screen and then the game crashes right when the tram its the elevator that takes it down.
It crashes so hard the computer totally shuts off!! :meh:
This has happened to me every time , mostly at the spot but it has happened before that part.

For me you don’t even have to do anything, just sit and watch the intro screen after start up. Eventually PC just dies. Windows logs are empty, just says unexpected.

Hi again after updating HL2 I can now get to the end of the tram but as soon as i move out of the tram it just freezes , no logs no minidump. Its driving me crazy

The mdmp files may not be quite where you expect them - try looking in the “steamapps//source sdk base 2007” folder.

Same happened for me. Game crashes after 9-10 seconds of gameplay. No matter which map you load.

GeForce 560ti
i7-2600
16 Gb RAM onboard
some Asus motherboard
hl2_4104_crash_2012_9_15T17_31_41C0.mdmp (148 KB)

I just tried again, and lowered the Resolution to 4:3 1280 x 1024 (LCD) made it throught the tram sequence. I then changed the res to 16:9 1920 x 1080 shortly after the game crashed again.

srsly?

Yup I just played through about an hour of play at 16:9 1280 x 720 with x2 Anti-aliasing with no problems!!!

It doesn’t matter what resolution I run it at, but it can’t make it past the first few seconds. At 1920x1080 it doesn’t even show “Black Mesa.” No minidump for me, either. Systems specs below. It’s not a lack of good hardware on my end, for sure. It doesn’t kill my machine, however. I can get to task manager and end task the hl2 mod to return to the desktop.

As a side note, I installed and loaded up half life 2 and it wouldn’t load up as well. This could be related to steam client issues on windows 8. Not sure.

CPU: i7 920 @ 3.2 Ghz
GPU: 2x GTS 450 in SLI
HDD: 240 GB Samsung 830
RAM: 24 GB @ 1600 Mhz
OS: Windows 8 Pro (official)

EDIT: Discovered the source of my problems appears to be running it in fullscreen. I have two monitors and it may be due to this or it may be due to windows 8’s handling of them. In windows 7 I never had problems with it. I ran the game perfectly through the intro in windowed mode at 1920x1080 (looks a little strange, but you can get used to it.). So, try it in windowed and see if that works for you.

Sadly, it did not help.

Bump. I’ve dropped my settings to absolute minimal, and updated my drivers. Still no love.

Alright, then try this. Go into your Steam library, right click on Black Mesa, Set Launch Options and put exactly this:

-windowed -noborder

Then, see if the game works at your desired resolution. If not, then I’ll keep thinking. This worked for me perfectly. Game has yet to crash, even at 1920x1080.

Omg! Yes! I unplugged my second monitor. Game works, well the intro screen does, I am about to play.

TADA Everything works. <3 for the black mesa team!

cured my crash by disabling SLi now runs great

Well, I have no second monitor or SLI, so it still not working for me(

Hey guys i feel retarded since I’ve tried everything mentioned above but reinstalling a game. I did that and it helped. Played for 15 minutes without a crash. Will test more tonight.

I had the same problem where the game crashes arbitrarily right from the tram tour and onwards. What seemed to fix this for me was to set the number of CPUs the game uses to 1. before you start the game, go to Start, Run, type MSCONFIG, Boot tab, Advanced Options, click the box to specify number of CPU’s, and set to 1.

Well, it seems I spoke too quickly. It still crashed although it took longer. I believe now my GeForce 9800 GT is overheating. The first clue was my Intel Motherboard giving me two beeps on startup after a crash, which means a problem with the video card. Looks like I’ll be doing some cleaning and reapplying heat sink compound.
