Heh, ‘barely’ was my experience back then. '97 wasn’t exactly a strong year for the internet. And the best search engine was Yahoo!, how things have changed.
I already had some experience with the internet before I even got my first computer. I would spend hours chatting on the IRC on the school computers or at my friends’ houses, so the first thing I probably did when I finally got internet at home was to see where do I get mIRC and how do I set it up.
I also remember looking for a some info on Mortal Kombat when I was a 12 or so. I went to the library where they had free internet (good lord) and used Yahoo to find some pictures and print them.
When I was riding my bike back home, prints in my hand, I kept yelling “Yahoooooooo! Yahooooooo!”
“This take forever”
Dial-up sucked.
I don’t even remember it.
If i recall correctly, the feeling was: “this is awesome”
Too bad i didnt know what awesome meant back then, but thats how i felt

I spent most of my time looking for Dead Horse - Peaceful Death and Pretty Flowers on DVD, news and background on Morbid Angel, news on Half Life, playing Team Fortress Classic, and looking for big tittied topless Asian women.

That it took forever to get on while an annoying sound was playing and we couldn’t get any phone calls while I was using it.
I remember that. online activity was super fast when you got a 56k modem but you still had to have 2 phone lines if you wanted to talk and internet at the same time. good times.
